Wade loves this. Show potential with 26-4 opening. Win by 10+ with enough mistakes to not get cocky and have lots to correct in the film room.

If so, then that is a VERY big problem. Last year the defense was atrocious. Wade talked about how much emphasis was placed on that side of the ball in the offseason...and they came out and looked no different whatsoever on defense. NONE. SIUE killed them offensively the exact same way teams killed them last year.
I like Wade a lot. But it is clear he has a deficiency on the defensive end. It’s hard to be confident improvement is going to come on that side to the ball when the guys responsible for fixing it have shown no ability to be able to do so.
That’s not to say this will be a bad team. It’s just that they will have the same ceiling as last year unless things drastically change with the defensive approach

People need to realize that A) Probably seeing SIU-E play St Louis hurt our players because they were lazy and B) First game coaching mistakes especially...Shareef O'Neal and Aundre Hyatt were responsible solely for probably 75% of those 3's on D. When we put Cook and Gaines in towards the end we did whatever we wanted.
Cam Thomas has the ability to drop 20+ a game. We know Watford can, we know Smart can, now Days shows he can. We have 4 guys that can score 20 any given night

We’ll be able to get a much better idea after we play St. Louis, but my initial thoughts are that this year’s defense is on par with last years defense. SIUE is usually one of the worst teams in the country and they hit 13 three pointers, shot over 50% , and had about as many rebounds as us. That’s not good.
