Just looked it up and a pitcher can take signs from anyone before stepping on the rubber. Once he is on the rubber, only catcher can give pitcher signs.

Soft away eats him up as best you can with a solid hitter.. with his hands I just don’t understand the long approach outside of just generating power. Neither of these came into this last at bat just approach in general.
