Hitting the next guy doesn’t help much either

So you’re saying that in a ground ball for possible DP, the runner on first should simply retreat back to first to break up the DP?

Did anyone besides announcers or presumptive fans say intentionally dropped ball?

So if we have a runer on 1st and a ground ball is hit, he can just stand at 1st to block the double play from being turned?
Are we just ignoring the fact that it was a line shot to Milam that he dropped?
That's why he dove back immediately. That's why I can see the call being what it was. I could see it being the other way as well.

quote:Funny enough, the only "innocence" you're actually allowed to claim is that of an incorrect call.
This feels like it could be abused by runners if they know they will be out on a potential DP - just run back to first base and claim ignorance.
So, if the umpire makes the incorrect call on a catch/no catch, you can react off of that.
The runner does not get the benefit of the doubt of what they thought the call was going to be, if the call went the other way.
No part of me feels that the rules that apply to that play were correctly applied. I do not see how a runner that is no longer live can remain in the field of play, directly interfere with that play, and not be called for interference. It makes no logical sense, at all.
