So, how many innings does Zach go tonight??
If he is going to go 3-4 and not be available tomorrow, Mainieri may have well just left him as a starter. If he is just going to go 1-2, why bring him in so early? The game was not on the line there - too early for that.
I would just assume Hess be the closer and used as such - late inning, close game guy.
