Sac bunting with the 9-hole hitter to put runners at 2B/3B was absolutely the right call in that situation. You got the top of lineup coming up and perhaps best hitter in Mathis. Just didn’t execute, but the strategy was correct in my opinion.

Yea. Kaminer also hit his first batter on a 0-2 count. I’m a little surprised why CPM didn’t go to Fontenot after Storz.

Past experiences with LSU baseball have told me that if a dude is out to start the season, he likely will have minimal involvement if/when he does comeback in that same season.

This team though has the pitching to go deep in a tournament setting, just needs Cranford to not be Hal Hughes 2.0.

Nope.

You pinch hit and get three guys swinging with the tying runners on instead of 2.

He has certainly set this program back a notch from what skip established. I don’t want to hear about parity either. We are tops in fan support and facilities and the brand that skip built wins half of the battle in recruiting and has a lot to do with hosting our own regional. Yet we always seem to have about 4 holes in the lineup and our pitching staff is never as deep as we think it is. It’s becoming kind of stale. And the intimidator is neither intimidating nor growing.

They haven’t been able to make contact with guys on 3rd all weekend. Much less get multiple runners in to score

That out was more important

Its really a question of if you want to go for 2 runs and the tie or 3 runs and the lead...in that situation, id prefer to let him swing away for the lead. Ut lets not act like its a clear cut and dry easy decision. Different coaches handle it differently

Pitching injuries completely decimated this team for past two years and had we had our entire staff, think they make it to Omaha at least 1 of the past 2 years.

Nah Smoke did that, Mainieri made the program respectable again.

Well then you haven't been paying attention to college baseball.

I do see your point. I just would have bunted for the reason I said. If he lets all swing away and it doesn’t work, say K and double play, then he would be butchered for it. Guess you damn if you do and damn if you don’t.

I’m a never bunt proponent. Very strong about that.

But damn, I just don’t know what paul should have done. Obviously hindsight is he shouldn’t have bunted.

But the bench options are so horrible that I kinda get the bunt.

Broski has advocated for Travinski, but that’s a right-hander hitter that has one hit in 12 ABs (SSS) against a righty throwing solid breaking pitches (roll over one and a two hopper to short for a take the wind out of your sail DP).

I just don’t know if there was a correct decision for Paul in that situation.

Its baseball, there were options, but none of them were great, its what makes the game fun and strategic. Personally travinski may hit into a dp or jack a homer. But against that stuff, likely to strikeout IMO. Mathis kind of let us down today. Which sucks because he is one of our best guys

You can argue about the bunt vs. no bunt all day. In the end the difference in expected outcomes is still low. 1 and 2 hole hitters didn’t execute, simple as that

I don’t love anyone on the bench but you’ve got to give someone a shot. I mean you pretty much know how that was going to end even with the top of the order up. Guess Paul’s gut told him other wise

Yep, my whole thing though is having 3 chances to swing instead of 2.

If we are down just 1 run though, bunt would've been the definitive right call.

I really didn't like giving up an out when you need 2 runs.

Obviously milazzo hit the homer today

But Cabrera is your All-American for a reason. He needs to hit higher in the order.

That decision I will criticize Paul for.

If I wasn’t bunting there, I’d have put in Bianco to swing away. He’d feast with that wind to left tonight.

Me neither, but i get it. I dont think doughty or milazzo is bunting if they were up in that situation. Maybe just hampton, gio, or collier would

Agreed with bianco, he’d have been my choice
