Interceptions were a concern going into the season and it turned out to be valid.

Also include that most of Garrett's 11 INT's came during the 3 game skid where he played (and the rest of the team) as bad as I've seen a QB play.

He handed Texas 8&4 a win.

So basically GNuss and LSU beat up on the shite teams - Ole Miss. One quality win this year and we shouldn't have won that one either

We always knew Nuss takes more chances, just his MO. I dont think he will ever be a QB that throws like 4-5 INT over a whole season. He takes a lot of risks.

Also it didnt help once Dellinger went down our interior OL couldnt block worth anything between Mubenga and Chester. Having pressure up the middle on a pocket QB is a terrible combination. 5 of his 11 picks came in just 2 games and he was under a lot of pressure in those games from up the middle. Doesnt help we never got the run game going much either so a gunslinging QB felt like he was the entire offense most of the season.

I would argue that beating South Carolina at there place was a quality win. They turned out to be a solid team.

Against Florida our running backs averaged 4.8 yards per carry and he tied his lowest qb rating in a game this season.

It’s kind of a problem if you don’t think he can improve…..

Burrow against ranked teams in 2018

Miami 11/24 140 yards 0 TDs 0 INTs
Auburn 15/34 249 yards 1 TD 0 INTs
Florida 19/34 192 yards 0 TDs 2 INTs
UGA 15/30 200 yards, 0 TDs 0 INTs
State 16/28 129 yards 0 TDs 1 INT
Alabama 18/35 195 yards 0 TD 1 INT
Texas A&M 25/38 270 yards 3 TDs 0 INT
UCF 21/34 394 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT

Burrow wasn't lighting the world on fire against ranked teams or anyone else until the A&M game the last game of the season But he did have a solid running game and really good defense behind him.

It's also funny so many on this board wanted to bench Daniels for Nuss until halfway through his Heisman season. Many of those same people now don't like Nuss. I think some people just like being unhappy

All of these except Jennings were pretty decent as first-year starters.

Harris and Jefferson fell off as passers in year 2 (though Jordan was better as a runner in 2010). I always said if the '09 Jefferson shows up in 2010, we might've won the NC.

The last 5 seasons LSU has lost to most all of the good teams and beat the border line teams except 2020 & 2021

If LSU had Nuss or Daniels in 2020 & 2021 they would have won 9 or 10 games both seasons

Rushing is the difference.
2018 8th in SEC
2019 6th in SEC
2022 8th in SEC
2023 2nd in SEC

The simple truth is that LSU has sucked at running the ball since 2016, but even a half decent run game would be the difference.

He was sacked 7 times and under immense pressure that game, kind of hard to operate when not given much time. Again a lot of those goes back to once Dellinger went down the OL took a huge nose dive this season.

And Durham/Williams still only averaged less than 4 ypc that game each taking away their 1 long run. So while 4.8 looks good on paper. 2 longer carries helped that out a lot. On 32 of our 34 carries we were just under 4 yards per. Which surprisingly is still one of our better days running the ball this season sadly enough

There's a large variation in "not improving" and going from 11 picks to 4-5. You know, he could throw 7-8 picks and be much improved still.

The point was he is a risk taker and when combined with a OL that fell apart mid season and a run game that could never really get up and go, it's going to result in some turnovers. There's things we can do to help rectify that, beyond just Nuss "getting better". We just cant have what happened to our OL mid-season again for next year and trying to better establish a ground game would be a huge step in the right direction. You got a very talented back in Durham, we just need to use him more.

What happens when you take away Nuss’ two long completions against Ou?

He was sacked 7 times

3-4 of those could have been avoided with quicker decision making.

Burrow made his good oline elite because of pocket awareness and blitz recognition.

He has to put in the work and process the mental part of the game.

He was much bettter against a good defense this week and hopefully puts him on a Daniels and burrow type track.

They both showed significant improvement late in the season.

Trying to absolve him of all guilt and making excuses for him doesn’t do anyone any good.

20/29 for 200 yards, 2 TDs, and no INTs. So still a perfectly fine game

Not in year 1 - Burrow's biggest criticism in year 1 was his slow decision making. He held onto the ball forever in a couple of his first starts.

Regarding Nuss, I think his game against Florida was him adjusting his decision making for the better. It felt like a growing-pain game to me. He then proved that with his final 2 games throwing for 600 yards, 4 TDs, no INTS, and 73% completions. Getting better usually doesn't happen immediately.
