This is ESPN poll which is different from the Coaches Poll. Should probably be a stickie for that poll as well.

#12 in both. But the coaches poll we are 2nd highest ranked SEC team.

In fact, they probably fill out their ballots in a few minutes and just do it based on final scores, without looking at the games in any detail.

You do realize that these people are literally paid to watch and analyze football, right? Plenty of people don't get paid and still watch most of the top 25. These guys have all offseason to research, and all week to review film, and stay up all night Saturday watching the games. I'm not saying that they're all great. I'm not saying you have to be a genius, but to say they don't watch the games and only take a few minutes to fill them out is absurd.

wow, you are very naive.

The "Coaches" Poll: You honestly think that college head coaches (who work 80 hour weeks) are analyzing all the other teams so they can accurately rank them for some silly poll??? They're only focused on their next opponent, and they hand their ballot to their SID who fills it out for them.

And the media folks? Sure, some of them (the in-studio guys) are watching a lot of game, but most media voters cover a specific team or conference, are at one game Saturday and have column deadlines. If you think they deeply analyze 60 games played in different time zones around the country, you're just dreaming.

I feel like we start at 12, 13 every year and usually finish around there

The "Coaches" Poll:

This isn't the coaches poll. It's just an ESPN preseason poll.

Also, the coaches still know more about the college landscape than most fans, even if it was the Coaches poll. It's their job to know.

If past history is any indicator, then it's not a "good place".
LSU was ranked 14th and 15th in the two major polls to start the season in 2003. We all know what happened that year.

Why is this stickied?

It's not even a real poll.

no, SEC coaches couldn't tell you a thing about whether Washington State is better than Northwestern, if neither of those teams are on their schedule.

During the season, a coach is consumed with preparing his team for the next game, and recruiting. If a coach isn't playing a PAC 12 team, for example, they won't pay one bit of attention to PAC 12 games. Not one bit.

I was expecting somewhere 10-15 with 10 being unlikely. So I'm not mad.

During the season they aren't keeping up with every single thing team x or y does, but if you think coaches aren't aware of the trends of what's happening in cfb you're an idiot. They have to know what kind of schemes are out there, which ones are successful, which ones aren't, which coaches are successful, which ones aren't.

If you're a successful college coach, you have to know these things. You have to keep tabs on coaches you want in your staff, and who might replace you if you're on the hot seat. It's the business.

Yes coaches are concerned about their conference and their next opponent, and the same for media writers, but if you don't have a better knowledge of the college football landscape than an average fan, you won't make it. These guys know what their talking about more than the average person. It doesn't make polls perfect, but acting like it's a guessing game is ignorant.

You have 2 really good coordinators. Real good. Both former Badgers.
10-2 it looks like with your schedule.

Should be a top 10 matchup in Gainesville in October. Get revenge there and this could be very special.
