That is the most fricking ridiculous comment. Batted ball hits a runner its an out at any level.

Is it not what he stated? Maybe I misheard the statement.

He clearly stated the umpire has discretion to determine whether the fielder could have made a play which is false.

We have struggled in the development department

That's certainly an issue. What kind of recruiting classes does Torina put together? Top 10?

Just looking for some perspective on the lack of development.

That’s bullshite, either way it doesn’t matter we haven’t scored 1-0 still wins

I regret they allow run rules in Super Regionals, but it could have mattered if it stayed at 1-0. Perhaps LSU scores 1 in the 7th. Would have at least like to have seen.

Oh well. Good game until the wheels fell off after that play.

That is absolutely true if the batted ball gets past the fielder in front of the runner. The umpire has the discretion to determine if a play could have been made on the ball by another infielder.

I was going to say something about that too but I think my dislike for MM as our coach is well documented by now.

That sounds like a horrible rule.

It’s really not, there is no reason to penalize a team if a play cannot be made on the ball.

I get that. Should have clarified it's more about having the umps try to make that call when they struggle enough with the more simple things.

I think there is a chance she goes in the portal, she knows how bad the remaining talent is and she could go to a better club and get developed

suspect they just let her contract play out. They aren’t buying her out with 2 years left. The rest will take care of itself

How much does she make per year? Haven’t been to the WCWS since ‘17 I believe. Do we risk just sitting it out for multiple years plus the time it’ll take a new coach to get their players in place to make a run? Woodward has replaced swimming and tennis coaches, wouldn’t surprise me to see him make a move.

She is really good however the bench talent is non existent, I mean most wouldn’t start at southeastern… it’s catastrophically bad

Don’t get up in softball rankings, it’s all too arbitrary and driven by travel ball coaches trying to elevate their brand. They don’t have a SEC player on their bench… none

That sucks. Hopefully there's better times ahead, whether that's with Torina or not. Sounds like the softball program has a great foundation, just needs a coach to get it over the hump.

The incoming class in August is good however what’s left is low mid major talent other than RF, catcher and of course Coffey

It also sounds like the development isn't there. Doesn't matter how good incoming classes are if you can't develop them.

Some of the coaching moves Torina made after that first game were pretty atrocious. Offensive gameplan changed, not making a mound visit to try and refocus the pitcher and infield and slow the game back down for them and then leaving her in way too long after getting hit hard that inning. Then, the person she turns to to pitch relief didn't seem like the best option from what most were saying and it sure seemed like they were right with the way it played out.
