I'd probably say that we keep it pretty vanilla in advance of the UT game

Please not. Run the offense and work out the kinks. Develop confidence. Blow it open early to rest guys and develop depth. Brennan needs snaps.
OU doesn’t play vanilla. Clemson doesn’t play vanilla.
Run the fricking offense!!

Now you're ok if we're "vanilla" in our opening game.

You'll see more depth than variation because the backups will play a lot, and people will still melt down

It's not about saving anything.

All of this right here. Perfectly stated.

They won't. But you'll see a lot of backups. It will be more about experience than using the whole playbook

Probably about right. Both teams are gonna run it a bunch ( ga southern for sure ) so the clock is gonna be moving all game. I can see LSU winning easily and only scoring 31-35 points just because they aren’t going to have many possessions.

run an unusual offense

It is not the traditional Wing T triple option. GASO put up 21 point and 341 yards against Bama (One TD was a kickoff). They beat Florida in The Swamp without completing a pass. Lost to UGA in Athens in OT, GT in the final minute.

LSU will beat Georgia Southern, but they are annoyingly hard to stop.

I also think LSU does this, but Texas may do the same vs La Tech.

People wonder why Bama is where they are and why we aren't. It's because we think being "vanilla" is ok.

No, it's because when Bama has run a "vanilla" offense they have still been able to destroy the little guys, but when we go "vanilla" we end up fighting til the end to try to win the game. They have had better skill-position players that have consistently made big plays and they've had dominant lines on both sides of the ball where they could push the little guys around better than we could.

Point taken on the Bama score. Unless our defense is asleep we will cover. I think our team is a little tired of the no offense or bad/not creative offense label. Getting Ga Southern off the field on third down will determine whether this one is 42 to 7 or 31 to 17.

I don't think that's necessarily true. I think that's just how Orgeron coaches. Vanilla vs the lesser teams. I don't get it though.

What separates the playoff teams versus LSU in past years. They open up the playbook and spank whoever they are supposed to clobber. I always hated the simple look versus less teams because Bama may see it mentality and then get embarrassed by them year after year.

End score will be LSU 24, GS 17.

I think you guys are focusing on the wrong side of the ball. Our offense certainly poses its problems but GS was #25 in the nation in scoring defense last year and that included two stinkers against Troy and ULM, and a game against Clemson.

The Clemson game was 24 to 7 with 12:00 left in the game and we had 1st and 10 on their 35 yard line. That's when the wheels came off. I think we ended up covering the spread by 1 point.

I think you guys can cover, but I wouldn't put too much money on scoring a ton of points (for either team). You'll certainly face bigger defenses this year in the SEC but we are very well coached and both of our starting corners are going to get drafted this year barring major injury.

Well if your offense is "vanilla" inherently, then ok. Whatever Bama runs they execute it well. They aren't saving anything.

We aren't going to be vanilla one game and then fun and gun the next. That's a nice idea but no one that's winning in CFB operates like that. Offense can't turn off and on like a light switch.

The only way you turn your offense into a well-oiled machine is by running it every game, not thinking you can take some games off because you feel your opponent doesn't deserve your respect.

Eh. We were pretty much the definition of a rent-a-win in 2016-17, but thank goodness those years are over.
