When is the last time our basketball team has been ranked this high?

Also if we go 2-0 this week, how far can we realistically jump in the polls?

If we go 2-0 I expect us to jump to 9-10. Should be higher IMO, but no one gives us much respect.

We'll leapfrog some teams with a TN win no doubt. But the NET ranking is all that matters. We beat KY and dropped a spot there which makes zero sense.

LSU hasn't really beaten anybody outside of Kentucky. When you get this far in the net rankings teams have overall better wins and tougher schedules

Soooo, tell me about how tough TN schedule has been. Maybe they’ve beaten quad 1 team, Idk, I didn’t look but they certainly don’t have the SOS we have.
Did they get their ranking because they’ve won their games by 10, because they passed the eye ball test, or because they don’t gave a young team?

To be clear, I’m not saying they don’t deserve their ranking. I just know their SOS isn’t anywhere close to ours yet they are winning in the polls.

They beat Louisville and Gonzaga. Their only losses are to UK and KU (in OT). They stayed ranked highly by simply winning a couple big games early and not losing.

It's interesting that I just saw a post of yours in another thread calling LSU basketball fans "ignorant", and here you are with perhaps the most ignorant post I have seen regarding LSU basketball, all season.

You might want to study up before you insult people.

Last time I could find LSU ranked this high was in the 08/09 season at the end before losing the last two SEC games

Our schedule was good from an RPI/NET perspective but I think he means based off of name recognition, we didn’t get the love from the pollsters or common fan. Our best OOC wins were St Mary’s and Furman while Tennessee had Gonzaga and Louisville. Kentucky had UNC, Louisville, and Kansas...

The exact way that he worded his post makes it pretty clear to me that he thinks LSU hasn't beaten any good teams, outside of Kentucky. He's saying other teams have better wins and tougher schedules. So I think he meant it literally in the way he said it.

And he's wrong.

Sure LSU didn't have many signature non conference wins, but they have had several in SEC play. The notion that LSU hasn't beaten anybody outside of Kentucky is ridiculous.

I remember seeing that our Q1 record was 7-2 before Saturday and is now 6-2. Could be a reason our ranking dropped since one of our wins is now Q2.

LSU has come on strong and they have beaten some tough teams, but they lost the three toughest non-conference games on their schedule in Fla St, Houston, and got that arse whipped by OK St. They are a different team now and are right where they need to be and need to keep building this momentum. All LSU can do is prove it more on the court and those opportunities are coming. They are ranked precisely where they should be right now looking at the season as a whole.

Who LSU lost to in non conference play is beside the point. The point was that LSU has played and beaten a number of good teams outside of Kentucky.

Oklahoma State was not our third best OOC opponent. Memphis, Furman, and maybe even UNCG and Charleston were all better than OK St.

That was a bad team. LSU lost to them because they were coming off a very emotional loss, and being as inexperienced as they were, they just came out completely flat. They would have lost to just about any team with a pulse that day.

But everything they have done since then has earned them a spot in the top ten. Yes, we have losses. So does everyone else. There are not ten teams deserving of being ahead of LSU right now, let alone 12 or more. I recognize that polls aren't really important. It's the principle (or lack, thereof) of them that I question.

@MSU (Tier 1)
@Ole Miss (Tier 1)
Auburn (Tier 1)
St. Mary's (Tier 1)
@Arkansas (Tier 1)
Furman (Tier 2)
Alabama (Tier 2)
UNCG (Tier 2)
Memphis (Tier 2)

ETA: Don't get caught up in name brands, LSU has a ton of good wins on this schedule with only one bad loss (Okie State)

Again, That's not what the committee looks at... All of those are Tier 1 or 2 wins, which will be important come March.
