re: LSU 'Booger' McFarland says Les Miles' seat is getting warm

quote:. This. Miles isn't going anywhere he doesn't want to for several years at least. Messing around at 7 or 8 wins for several more years will only get him to retire a little early. He's not going to be fired unless suddenly goes winless or is caught in bed with an coed.
I don't think his seat is warm. If he doesn't solve the QB problems and keeps posting 8-4 seasons, he'll be "encouraged" to retire.

How many years have passed since LSU has had 10 wins and/or seriously contended for the SECG or even just the SEC West?

Hint: It ain't been in the previous 2 seasons.
We won 10 games in 2012 and were a Chavis meltdown away from the SECCG.
Then we lost our entire defense to the NFL and went 10-3. Then we lost our entire offense to the NFL and went 8-5.

I got to LSU in '96. Yeah, we threw parties at the Independence Bowl with McFarland & Co. Simpler times.

1. Whether and when Les is "on the hot seat" will be a decision made by 3-4 people, higher-ups at LSU. Les' position is not in any jeopardy now.
2. If LSU goes 8-5 or 7-6 in 2015, Les will find his position in some jeopardy but, under no circumstances, will he be fired after the 2015 season. LSU is not paying him what they'd have to pay him at that point. (I think it is somewhere around $10.5 mil until 2017.)
3. Need to get up to 10-win seasons and stay there most years. The SECW is brutal and is not getting easier.

I love how you use the word "kid," and call someone else a condescending jackass. Again, look at yourself, dude. I'm sure you're a fine businessman but this isn't a business it's a college football team. It's supposed to be about winning not making money. Be a fan, love your team, support them in your own way, but don't think you have to try and educate those who are disappointed we're not elite right now. Not sure how wanting to be great became a bad thing. Again, we love coach...it doesn't mean we have to blindly worship the ground he walks on. Call a spade a spade--last year sucked and we better improve.

Not saying he hasn't brought success. Coaches have a shelf life. There's something that feels Fulmer/Coker-esque about the last 3 seasons.

Booger was an great player but that does not give him great opinions .Truth is a slippery item on this board every body claims but few have it !

t .g. This is about the players at LSU,if they and LSU have successful lives and seasons at LSU the coaches will have done a good job !

College football is run as a business to generate more revenue- it is not for the sake of the fans. Coaching changes have to be financially feasible, and the payout of CLM's contract is still too substantial for this to take place for the next 2 years.
Terms of contract extension signed in 2013:
Terms of contract extension signed in 2013:

If Miles is terminated without cause in any of the first three years of of the contract, he receives $15 million; $12.9 million in years four or five; $8.6 million in year six; and in year seven, 4.3 million.

And if he doesn't win a single game the next year it'll be 119 wins in 13 years. I guess that's still good enough, huh? This is why the "overall record" argument is no longer legit.
If you are going to be that extreme or if you cant see the significant difference between 0 wins 8 wins, I cant help you.
While I understand the "what have you done for me lately" thought process and while I agree that 2 more 8 win seasons will make the Miles seat very hot, I don't see it getting him fired.
I also don't agree that the overall record will have no baring on the LSU decision if we have 2 more 8 win seasons, but if you want to, knock yourself out.

I use the word kid because I am 60 years old. Please, college football has been a business for at least the last 30 years. Winning=profits. Plain and simple. Now since only 3, I think, programs have won more games than LSU since Les Miles is the coach anyone who whines about him and his "seat" are, as my grandfather would say, "Ate up with the dumbass." Now, you are dismissed along with that other internet clown that claims to be a retired millionaire.

I never claimed to be an expert on business, coaching, anything business related. All I ever claimed to be was a fan disappointed with our current trend. I believe in the "what have you done for me lately" philosophy and think with all the talent on this team, we could do better. I make 40 thousand a year as a radio broadcaster. That's it. The only thing I ever took offense with is that you were calling people fools and idiots when all they want is what you and I want...to be an elite football team, which is the LSU standard. I don't think any coach should get a pass just because they stocked up on wins in years past. Look at Mack Brown, Larry Coker, Philip Fulmer. I think booger has a point...never once did I use the word "ultimatum," and if he has an 8-5/4-4 season, his seat COULD get hot, in the eyes of many. I'll get off your lawn now.
ETA: What kind of season would make you happy, as a fan? I'm not trying to bait, troll, or anything. Considering all of the resources we have at LSU, I really would like to know what would satisfy you--again, not as a businessman, but just a lowly fan like the rest of us. Cheers.

If he had a losing season he will be fired. If he wins 8 games again his seat gets hot. We have been trading downward for 3 years.

Look at Mack Brown, Larry Coker, Philip F
Brown went 4 straight seasons at the end without a 10 win yr. and 1 of those seasons was under .500.
Coker started with a NC and trended down each season after that for 5 yrs. and is last 3 yrs. were under 10 wins.
Fulmer went from averaging 11+ wins with a NC for 4 yrs. to averaging 8.5 wins with 2 under .500 out of his last 4 over his last 10 yrs.
We are coming off 13, 10, 10, and 8 win seasons.
What's going on at LSU, to this point, in almost no way resembles what was happening with the coaches you mentioned. imo

All good points...I just don't want to wait until it gets THAT bad before we decide to make a change. We don't want to completely rebuild a broken program like those others. I've said a bunch of times we'll do better this season than 8-5. Just saying that IF we don't it might be time to at least THINK about it. Not close to jumping to any conclusions after last year. I'm cautiously optimistic.

you gotta be joking?? This is LSU not Ole Miss or Miss State where seasons like that are celebrated. LSU stockpiles talent every season like the other bigtime programs and should be in the hunt for a national title every year.

Well, it is and that's the "truth". Miles is going nowhere even with another 8-5 yr. next yr. Anyone thinking LSU will fire Miles if he goes 8-5 this coming season, is delusional in their LSU football thought process. His seat will be safe, but pretty warm.
I don't get why people cant understand that LSU is not going to buy out a 15 mil. contract and turn around and give another guy a 15-20 mil. 5 yr. deal at a time when the school is having budget cuts all cause LSU football fans cant endure only a 8 win season.
No LSU fan would be happy with back to back 8 win seasons, but that's not the point. The point is we are too invested in Miles to release him before probably 3 more yrs unless he pulls a BP. imo
