BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana state senators Thursday moved forward with legislation that would allow college student athletes to earn money for use of their name, image or likeness, a bill prompted by the NCAA’s inaction on a policy for endorsements and sponsorship deals.

Sen. Pat Connick’s proposal won unanimous, bipartisan backing from the Senate Education Committee, despite senators’ concerns about a piecemeal approach across states without a national policy.

Lots of pitfalls but any state that doesn't follow suit will have a competitive disadvantage.

On another note the transgender bill passed as well but Governor will veto it - affects NCAA championship events like upcoming Final Four

If you think this won’t hurt LSU you’re fooling yourself.

I don’t understand how anyone thinks this is a good thing for LSU, the overwhelming majority of athletes whose name/likeness is not valuable, or college sports in general.

Exactly, how many fans of LSU are fans because Joe Burrow, Fournette, Chase, etc played here?

Likely less than 1%

What will happen is whoever can offer a player the most ad money will start to steal the talent. In other words Google can outspend Mike Anderson’s.

Football players, coaches and athletic directors in the state of Florida spoke out Thursday in opposition to a bill that would delay for a year the state's plans to allow college athletes to make money from endorsements.

Miami coach Manny Diaz and Florida State coach Mike Norvell joined their quarterbacks, D'Eriq King and McKenzie Milton, in asking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to veto a bill that would press pause on the state's pioneering name, image and likeness law

Let them subject themselves to the testosterone test and let’s see where this plays out. None of them want to take they test.

Aren’t they legally allowed to do it now and it’s just the NCAA that says no?

So what does this bill change?

Another problem is that the gambling sites are going to get into this heavily which opens Pandora’s box when it comes to issues between the lines
