Those are the opening words of this curiously pessimistic article on the MSU victory from the New York Times.

I agree with some of the critiques and reservations expressed by the author, but the overriding tone seems needlessly negative and dismissive. Perhaps I am being overly sensitive. An odd piece, in my estimation.

Everyone else had the same goal. Everyone else played the same system. Two teams succeeded in reaching the game. One team won. The end.

So it's basically just like reading the rant most of the time?

He's from New York and is trying to be "literary" in his writeup.

What is "The New York Times"?

Never heard of it...

Thamel is one of my favorite cfb writers but I agree that this was a weirdly negative article. Of course the strangest thing about the article is the NYT's insistence on referring to us as "Louisiana State."

I read it this morning on the commuter train into New York City and called to cancel my subscription to the Times. I told them, "You're entitled to your own opinion, not your own facts. Which other 2-loss team (there was only one 1-loss team)was more deserving of playing for the title in '07? Ask Ohio State if they felt more 'bumbled' or 'rumbled'."

Thamel is a poor excuse for a sports reporter writing for a poor excuse for a sports section.

Thursday night played out in a familiar mosaic of sputtering offense, wasted timeouts and critical penalties.

I don't remember any wasted timeouts.

It doesn't say "bumbled" on our National Championship trophy.

Who else was more deserving to be there besides LSU? He's just mad his team had more than 2 losses.

I think he is referring to the timeout in the fourth that Miles called when he thought JL wasn't gonna get the play off in time...Miles called the timeout and then ran Ware up the middle on 3rd and 7 with 6 minutes to go in the game

Read that arcticle this morning too and thought the same thing. Didn't disagree with what he said, but thought he was overly critical of a team that many had picked to be upset in a tough SEC road game against a team that desperately needed a win.

One of my all time favorite quotes--from the late NY Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
