I went to a concert at the new UT (Austin) basketball arena and it is incredibly well done. Great boxes, restaurant space, lounging areas...first class. That is what LSU needs to do.

Y’all are not factoring in the new inflated cost for all materials and construction these days.

Alabama’s new arena has gone from 150 million to nearly 230 million, and they don’t see how they can pull it off.

More capacity than LSU needs but yeah that arena was $375 million

I agree with you, but that could be said for just about any spending item the legislature includes. Its not an issue unique to PMAC.

That tweet is exhibit A of why lots of people have no use for the mainstream media any more. Rather than just state the facts, butthurt journalist adds his tears to the tweet.

These assholes are gonna waste so much money on pork barrel projects so I don’t know why anyone is crying over $100M for basketball arena renovations. That’s a rounding error compared to the total of other wasteful government projects.

Auburn built their new facility for $86 million.

Broke ground 15 years ago. Would probably cost 3x that now.

Yeah I think for home basketball games they even curtain off the top levels of the Moody Center.

It's really nice, but it's a bit different than what LSU needs. It's pretty much the only big arena in a city of a million people and lots of concerts and events are held there. LSU doesn't need an arena that big.

This will pay for the studies, but who will fund the construction cost?

1. The state does NOT own the PMAC. It was deeded to the LSUAD several years ago.

2. The state is promising to give only $50 mil to this project. TAF/LSUAD must raise the rest. Since the $50 mil is LOWEST priority, it is doubtful TAF/LSUAD will ever see that money and certainly not anytime soon.

3. LSU already has the plans for what they are gonna do. TAF already paid for the study. LSU/TAF can sell bonds and get started relatively soon. IF Woody will just move on it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it shouldn't matter if they broke ground 15yrs ago. The contractor is going to change order you to death based on current pricing. They certainly aren't going to hold the quoted price based on what they proposed 15 yrs prior.

The Fertitta Center was a remodel of Hofhienz Pavilion that sat 10K and was lowered to 8500 after the remodel. Imo, it it is the poster child for what a remodel should look like. They turned one of the ugliest must bland bowl shaped arenas in the country into a great basketball venue.

Down vote me if you will, but I just don't see why a city the size of BR needs two mediocre arenas that both get pretty seldomly used.. We have the PMAC, we have the River Center. I'd much rather have one really good arena that gets used most nights out of the year.

Raising Cane's PMAC sounds awesome.

Average cost for a modern facility that hosts basketball/volleyball/gymnastics/concerts/other events runs at least $200 million. This would likely be massive renovations and an expansion to some degree.

They should just remove those massive walkways on N Stadium Drive and they can do something big right there next to Mike's cage before we even think about demoing the PMAC.
