Either 2 things happened here:
1) The interns that sort Athletic Dept mail over the years didn’t believe Lou Holtz actually wrote a letter and assumed it was a joke
2) Lou probably said something critical of Kelly at some point in his punditry career that BK took offense to

I'm no psychologists but I believe part of all the Notre Dame fan/alumni consternation about CBK is projection. Their knowledge that they are about to get a beat down on opening weekend at the Horseshoe and their season starting off 0-1 has ND fans feeling really anxious and that anxiety is being projected to anyone and anything else. CBK happens to be a convenient somebody to project their anxiety.

1. BK had no obligation to respond and Holtz should not have been meddling
