Whatever was rolling around Skip's brain when he courted Del Rio, isn't on LSU's radar today. I wasn't for JDR for LSU HC then, and definitely not now.

LSU via Miles BCS Title, 2nd in a decade via a 2nd HC, and the ten win seasons, has only further cemented LSU as an elite program.

Hiring LSU's next HC, if and when, should LSU be performing par to it's current decade results, and with it's two previous HCs making at or near the top of NCAA pay scales, should only make LSU that much more attractive to prospective HCs than the previous two times the job was opened over the last decade.

I don't know that if I made a serious list of potential LSU HC hires, that JDR would make the top thirty. And he was somewhere around 8 to 12 on my list last time. Times and stocks change!

I'm beginning to think that our fanbase is so delusional, we're actually priming ourselves for a massive fall from grace. Get somebody like Kirk Ferentz in here, lose 4 or 5 games a year for the next 5 years and watch the bandwagon get a lot lighter.

Have fun, dudes.

RR choked the biggest game of his career losing to Pittsburgh. Miles choked the biggest game of his career, at the time, by losing to Ark at home. The diff was that we got lucky and backed into the NC game after RR choked. I'll pass on RR.

Short list:

Saban (Prob 2nd best coach in college football)

Kelley (tremendous motivator, great offense, has won at every level, but can he recruit in the SEC?)

Sumlin (Good pedigree (Stoops), would bring exciting brand of football)

These are great NFL coaches, but lately it doesn't seem that coaches trying to make the leap between college and pro have been successful. Granted, most of the failures have been great college coaches not being able to translate his style to the NFL game, it seems that NFL and college head coaching is completely different and what makes a coach good one place is his downfall in the other. Either way this list is fantasy.

I also don't think a coach like Kelly is the answer because there is a huge difference between coaching at a no pressure school, in a terrible conference, and coaching at LSU(or any other major sec school). If Miles had to go(which I hope doesn't happen) I would take Pelini over all of the coaches mentioned. Many reasons why he is a good fit: has experience at a major school, he knows the area, he is defensive minded, we realistically may be able to get him, and I love they way he coaches on the sidelines.

While I think Saban is a fantastic coach/program builder, I also believe you can't go home again.

It's best to go another route.

Why do people think Bill Cowher and Jeff Gruden, etc. have any interest of coming into baton Rouge and becoming coach? Not only that, but do people really think those guys are in it for the long term? Say Gruden comes in in '11 (or next year)...no one thinks he would use LSU as a stepping stone to take over another NFL franchise. CFB CANNOT compete with the NFL.

If we want a guy to be the next Chollie Mac - and I am referring to spending many years at LSU and not style of coaching - we are going to have to hire a guy like Derek Dooley or at best, a guy like Chris Petersen and Brian Kelley. Luring in a HUGE name isn't the answer to long term success.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul

You're drinking a Route 44 size of stupid if you think 1. We'd hire Nick Saban 2. If you think Nick Saban will leave Alabama for another SEC school. Alabama is equal to LSU in about every facet except maybe for the Cox Academic Center.

Les Miles at LSU:
1 National Championship (2007)
1 SEC Championships (2007)
2 SEC Western Division Championships (2005, 2007)
Record: 49–13 (.790)

Yeah, let's run this guy off.

That National Championship came so close to not happening it isn't even funny. Also, have you checked our SEC record the last 2 years? And we still have 2 more to play against teams that both beat us last year. A lot of you guys are penciling in these last 2 games as wins... saying "if Miles only loses 2 games will you still want him fired?" Dude, after the physical beating we took this weekend, it's REALLY possible for us to lose one of the following 2 games. We're 4-2 in the SEC now, we could end 5-3 or 4-4. The scariest thing is that save for a couple miracle plays, we could be 2-4. If we have a similar season next season, I feel like some of the Miles lovers will still be like, "omg dude, he got a national championship in 2007 totally dont fire him"

frick it.

I am probably willing to take some lack of gameday coaching for the recruiting Les brings in. Anyone else may be a gamble when it comes to recruiting. The talent will always keep LSU in the game.

This plus 1000.

These guys thinking Gruden or Cowher would come to LSU if it is open are not quite as rantarded as those who want Miles fired.

But I'll play along. IF Miles leaves for Michigan--which at this point I don't think would ever happen-- my short (and realistic) list for next LSU HC is:

Pelini--for reasons mentioned earlier in the thread.

Tuberville--that guy can coach his arse off.

It will not happen. Les wasn't considered seriously in the first place and sure as hell will not be considered again after a 3-5 record and 4 losses from the tops in the league the last two years.

There is no way Saban would come back to LSU. If he would come back, would recruits trust him?

My list in no order:

Kelly
Patterson (including Bumpas...no offense intended Chief)
John Gruden (big reach)
Tuberville (damn good coach but has the modern game made him average?)

I like Les.
