Michigan AD backs Rodriguez

Michigan athletic director Bill Martin is retiring soon, but head football coach Rich Rodriguez won't be going anywhere.
Martin backed Rodriguez in an interview with The Detroit News on Monday, saying the coach's job is not in jeopardy despite five losses in the last six games. Michigan needs an upset victory Saturday against No. 20 Wisconsin or next week against No. 11 Ohio State to avoid missing a bowl for the second consecutive season.
The NCAA also is investigating Rodriguez's program after allegations of time-limit violations surfaced late this summer.
"He's not going anyplace," Martin said. "Rich is an outstanding coach. There is no question he's got my total support. I think the world of that guy. Is he perfect in every respect? Nobody is. But he works hard. He'll get it right."
Martin and Rodriguez helped each other deal with Saturday's crushing loss to Purdue, a game Michigan led 24-10 at halftime.
"He helped me, I helped him [after the game]," Martin said. "I think this loss was hard on all of us. It was hard on Rich, it was hard on me. But this guy is a winner. This guy's not used to losing."
Not much has gone right for Rodriguez since his arrival at Michigan, but he deserves at least another year to get things right with his own recruits. The combination of potential NCAA violations and another bowl-less season could really sting the program, but a coaching change combined with the impending change at athletic director isn't the right answer.
You know what would cause UM to get rid of RR after this season? Sanctions

Miles isn't going anywhere period. can anyone say that miles lost the last game. no. I still support miles's decision but we would have won both games against bama with RP at QB. look at georgia with stafford or oklahoma without bradford they are having the same type seasons we had last year. its not a coaching issue. MILES STAYS. GOOD.

which seems unlikely to come UM's way at this point. I haven't heard a thing about them since the season began
they may get a slap on the wrist, but anything that comes down won't until around the spring time anyway when its too late to make a change

Miles isn't going anywhere unless he wants to. The AD knows there is a big upside for 2010 if Les stays, and a big downside if he goes. Your AD knows you can't beat bamer when your starting QB and star RB go down injured. Miles coached a good game. Even if you only beat 1 of arky / ole miss it will be a good season with the youth at QB and OL IMO.

I would take this deal in a heartbeat if I was Aleva.[quote]
[quote]I wouldn't because I'd rather have a defensive minded coach, but damn what RR couldn't do with this team. I mean shite, we already the players a team like his would need. Some of those games could get FUGLY.
Yeah, it would get FUGLY alright. But the FUGLY part would be all of you trying to run his arse out of town after he lost a couple of games.
RR coming over here? If I was Aleva I'd tell him to call me when he mananges to win half of his games in the Big 10.

We only won 7 regular season games last year.
And Meyer only won 8 in '07 with Tebow and Harvin. What's your point? One down year and you want Miles fired....why the hell would a good coach want to come to LSU then. Look what happened to Auburn.
Please tell what Miles has done to warrant getting fired.

You don't hire a "search consultant" ... you're an athletic director.

God, I don't ask you for much. Please send Miles to Michigan. Please, I'll volunteer at the Salvation Army for a year. Please hear my prayer.

It would be nice to have a coach who knew what to do with talent and knew how to manage a football game.

id trade Miles for RR yesterday

quote:yeah, i can see how all that winning he does would make you lose confidence in him. plus he's not a good recruiter. he keeps lsu off the ncaa radar. oh, and he's not very good at hiring top assistants. yeah, those are all good reasons to lose confidence in him
Les Miles has done nothing but lose my confidence over the last few years
