Yes. The coach’s pocket. Tells the administrators we need lower standards to get this “player” accepted. A pretty clever con

It only works if the coach has unlimited exceptions though.

ELITE schools caught in some serious high level fraud but the Wolkens of the world are more focused on a duffle bag of cash finding its way to Scotlandville.

Not a lawyer but wasn’t the next kid right after the cut line harmed?

The suspects allegedly paid bribes of up to $6 million to get their kids into elite colleges, including Yale, Stanford, Georgetown and USC.
Why is that a bribe? Is is illegal to make university inducements to get your kid into college?

Famous, rich people pay ransoms to get their kids in elite schools
Poor black kids who are good at basketball auction themselves off to schools
Thank you, FBI. Would have NEVER guessed this stuff happens.

Except the deserving applicants who were denied admission because someone else took their place. In any event, bribery is illegal.

Yeah, I see it went deeper and they faked ACT scores, got administrators involved, etc. Geez

Ransoms.

As they should. They have a talent of monetary value. There is nothing wrong with this from a federal state or local level. It's done in business all day everyday.

In most cases, the students did not know their admission was contingent on a bribe.
University athletic coaches and administrators of college entrance exams were also among those arrested.
The alleged scam centered around a man in California who ran a business helping students get into the college of their choice.
Authorities say parents would pay him a predetermined amount, with full knowledge of what they were doing. He would then steer the money to one of two places: either an SAT or ACT administrator, or a college athletic coach.
The coaches would allegedly arrange a fake profile that listed the prospective student as an athlete, and exam administrators would either hire proctors to take the test or correct the answers of a student.
The bribes ranged from a few thousand dollars to up to 6 million, according to officials. The charging documents, unsealed in Boston federal court, are more than 200 pages long.
This makes it sound like a bribe of 6 million here.

Unfortunately for LSU and all others, the NCAA's standard is not whether anyone was harmed. Even if everyone benefited, the NCAA would say the integrity of the game was harmed.
Oh, and frick the NCAA.

That's not how this works. Understanding the difference between crimes and torts is important because the law treats them in different ways. TORTS: A tort is a wrongful act that injures or interferes with another's person or property. A tort case is a civil court proceeding. The accused is the "defendant" and the victim is a "plaintiff."
In other words, this is a crime. It's not a lawsuit.

One wonders why they weren't upfront and just donated it directly to the endowment. It's pretty straightforward; if your family's name is on a building no admissions director in the country will turn you down.

The university has the prerogative to define "deserving".

In bribery some one is harmed by extortion or other means. In these cases they appear more in line with services rendered.
