Sorry if germans (sure it is), but heard the end of radio clip on pregame this week about our former HC in 2002 being mad at Va Tech for something that happened in the way our 2002 game was scheduled. I know there was a key penalty early on, but other than that I recall us getting beat pretty bad, so did Va Tech do something I missed as far as time of the game etc. that we thought cost us the game? Sorry if not making sense, just not sure what it could be.

If I recall correctly, that game was supposed to be the season opener for both teams. At some point during the offseason, VT surreptitiously scheduled a game before LSU, essentially as a preseason contest to prepare for LSU.

P.S. I was in Blacksburg. And it sucked.

Seems like they were supposed to come here in 03 and they backed out. We ended up having to schedule Western Illinois. Back then strength of schedule mattered in BCS formula.

Dominic Davis had a PR for a TD called back for a phantom hold.

Domanick (sp?) Davis had a punt return for a TD called back.

Didn't matter though...we won the game, right? I mean there's no way we lost with Saban coaching...that would've been impossible.

On of the reasons that we lost that game was that our receivers dropped 5 or 6 balls they should have caught.

As for being upset about the scheduling, usually LSU plays a home and home with an opponent in consecutive years, which we were supposed to do with Va Tech. In 2003, we won the national championship as you know, and would have had them at home in 2003. However, they opted to play in some national kickoff game, and postponed the game with us in BR until 2007.
I think we all know how that turned out........

LSU took care of that in 2007
Needless to say, outside of one of those kickoff classics I don't see Va Tech coming to Baton Rouge again and I know LSU will not go back to Blacksburg

This. The beginning of the ESPN hatred also began about this time because ESPN is the reason VT backed out.

Domonick Davis returned a punt for a TD early the game. They called it back for a questionable block I the back call on Demetrious Hookfin. That's all I can think of. The team played terrible the rest of the way. I lost a TON of money on that game. Bet em in the game, in the first half, AND in the second half.

If I remember correctly, we were supposed to open the season against each other ( be each others first opponent ). VT snuck in a tune up game the week before, so they already had a game under their belt. Maybe that is it.

Va Tech is a bunch of pussies.

It was supposed to be the season opener for both teams but Va Tech scheduled a cupcake the week before our game at "the last minute" which fricked us and gave them a tune up game.

They were supposed to make a return trip to BR in 04 but them and ESPN scheduled that made for TV season opener vs. USC in DC. Va Tech was scared to open up the season with USC then LSU so they backed out of the LSU return trip all the way until 2007.

I wonder how many people remember the 02 game was played on Sunday.

This is true, but I'm not sure if it was what the OP was alluding to. The 2003 snafu wouldn't have had any impact on the 2002 game. I thought he was referencing the fact that VT sneakily participated in some bullsh*t Hispanic College Football classic the week before the 2002 game to give them an advantage over LSU, which hadn't played at all. Who knows, though.

Shyrone Carey literally had a ball that hit him in the hands then fell at which time he kicked it up in the air and was intercepted.

That was a game where you kept thinking it was going to turn around but it never did. All of the airs left LSU's sails when the punt return was called back. VT's running backs then proceeded to pound LSU.
