Had I been sitting one seat over you would have.

Looking back getting thrown out that night might have been a good thing.

Two minutes left in the half, down by four and Nicks gonna try to run out the clock

But agree, the Tiger were as hot as any team at the end of the season. Atlanta was fun

The 2001 SEC title team was the ball that got this program rolling again. They started this monster.

Yea, the defense kinda sucked, and it shouldn't have with players like bradie James, trev faulk, Ryan Clark, Jarvis green, etc.

That offense was maybe our best ever though. Idk how the numbers stack up against other teams, but Rohan to Josh reed, mike Clayton, jerel myers, and Robert royal was lethal. Dom Davis was so damn versatile out of the backfield and people forget labrandon toefield had 19 rushing TDs that year and would have had well over 1000 yards had he not gotten hurt against Tennessee, finished with like 995.

We were a very good team at the end of the year, but we wouldn't have beaten Miami

2001 - yes, we knocked TN out of the NC game, and yes it snowed in New Orleans upon walking out of the Dome that night. Illinois was no match, and we were up big before giving up a couple of late scores.

2006 LSU is the team I'm convinced would have beaten anyone at the end of the year...including UF in a rematch.

its cool, but i know people on here that really think we could have beaten Miami. The D was not good we were in shoot outs with 7-5 Bama and Ark teams.

Let's not get quite so over the moon for the Miami team in 2001. Yes, they were a great team, but LSU would have had at least a puncher's chance at the end of the season. VT (can't remember if they still had Vick) lost to that Miami team by only 2 points. Our Tigers would have been an underdog, but Miami didn't have to play all that hard of a schedule in 2001 and then drew a pretty crappy Nebraska team in the BCS game due to the computer-heavy system they had back then. If the Tigers could have made a shootout, an upset would have been plausible.

I disagree with this.

I don't if they would have beaten Miami, but if anyone could have it would have been LSU. I am 100% they wouldn't have gotten blown out.

It irritates the shite out of me everytime I hear ppl talk about how great that Miami team was and they use the reasoning of how many players signed Pro contracts. Just because your are loaded with talent doesn't make you one of the greatest teams ever. If thats the case the 1987 LSU team would be the greatest team in LSU history.

If you look up the 2001 Miami team you will nut your pants. Stacked with future NFL stars. Not saying we wouldn't have had a chance. Just admiring the team.

We were really lucky that TN beat Florida the week before (in a game that had to be rescheduled because of Sept 11). Florida was soooo much better than TN, I was shocked that Florida lost that game at home. The one home game I got to see that year was one of the all team beat downs in Tiger Stadium. Rex Grossman, Gaffney and Caldwell torched us. As someone indicated in a previous post, our secondary was probably the weak link and UF really exposed it.

I'm not a Miami fan by any stretch, but their 2001 team was one of the best of all time. There were 16 first round draft picks on that team. Their RBs were Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee and Frank Gore. Shockey was TE, Andre Johnson was a WR. Their defense had Vince Wilfork, Vilma and Ed Reed. Just a ton of depth, just like ....

2001 Miami was one of the most talent teams ever. Many are going over the moon for LSU who lost at home to OM by 11 and Florida by 29. After OM we went on a tear against 7-5 Bama, MTSU, beat 7-5 Ark 41-38, and 7-5 Auburn.

Miami's offense was just as potnent as LSU and had a much better defense.

no Vick it was at VT the last game and Miami was pretty much locked in the title game at that point.

You mean a Nebraska team with the Heisman winner that was 11-1 in the best conference in 2001 that avg 37.5 ppg. They got hammered by a team that was just as hot than LSU, Colorado the last game, that;s why people think they were not good, but that was a damn good team.

As for the schedule, go look at our schedule for the hot streak, not to tough.

define blowout? Miami's offense was freaking awesome and unlike LSU, they had a good defense. Miami wins by 2 scores.

lol, wut? We are not talking about the 2011 Red Sox that didn't even make the playoffs, they were the only undefeated team and won the BCS CG, over a 3 year span they lost 2 games: 2000 at Wash by 5 who went 11-1 and won the Rose Bowl (over Drew Brees) and in OT in the 2002 BCS CG to tOSU. When you win titles, only lose 2 games and have a shite load of talent, you are one of the best ever.

Yeah, its not like any of those guys did anything in college Come on that team was stacked, that's why so many of them were drafted.

That team was 10-1-1 and finished #5, between 1969 and 2003 that's the best team LSU had. While there were a good # of pro's on that team, I doubt it has more than 2003, 2006 or 2007.

H-Town: No one (at least not me) is saying that LSU was likely to beat Miami in 2001. That team is deservedly considered one of the best ever. But I think you're overselling that admittedly great Miami team and underselling the LSU squad if you don't see a reasonable chance of an upset. LSU's D was suspect but did have a bunch of athletes. The O could play with anyone. If they get into a shootout, who knows?

And as for the Nebraska team, you're overrating them. They got smoked by a good but not great Colorado team. Absolutely smoked. TN would ahve been a much better opponent than Nebraska, but ...
