Looking back at the 2007 defense

Pelini's last season in his first stint at LSU was disappointing to me at the time, and partly bc of that I was kind of lukewarm about bringing him back on board. However, watching the 2007 Florida game I came to appreciate that he did not coach nearly the caliber of talent then that he will this season (crosses fingers) and in the future. No disrespect to these guys btw, but watching Rahim Alem, Pittman and co. try to tackle Teblow was almost comical. LSU's first string defense in 2007:

Glenn Dorsey: tremendously talented obviously, but was never the same after that injury. Drafted 5th overall. I'd say he had a decent pro career all things considered, but not relative to his pick

Ricky Jean-François: drafted in the 7th round, had about the career you'd expect for that

Chevis Jackson: drafted third round by the Falcons, lasted two seasons there (I forgot his only big play was a pick six of Brees)

Curtis Taylor: 7th round pick by the 49ers, saw little playing time

Luke Sanders: Undrafted Free Agent

Jonathan Zenon: UDFA

Kirston Pittman: UDFA

Ali Highsmith: UDFA

Tyson Jackson: 3rd overall pick by the Chiefs in 2007. He had a decent pro career, but not for a top-5 pick

Craig Steltz: 4th round pick by the Bears, was having a decent career before being injured

Darry Beckwith: UDFA

There were also a ton of injuries throughout the season. I'd say the defense held up pretty well all things considered that year, the Arkansas game was 7-6 at halftime and I think the patchwork defense just wore down, so I put that more on the offense.
