We stay at the Holiday Inn across the river in Port Allen. Never had any issues. But we are coming in from the west.

Tailgating is anywhere. I haven't been able to do it the last few years because the band practice field is always taken and that's where we parked for the previous 10 years.

We have eaten at the Pastime a few times and thought it was good.

Ticket prices suck so far on Stubhub for the Wash game.

For a non SEC game, I would consider coming down without tickets. You will get them cheeper with cash onside the stadium. An option to look at.

Didn't read all comments but most seemed like BS. I'd Stay around Gonzales area near Cabela's and Tanger Outlet Mall or the College Drive area both have nice restuarants and rooms. Definitely stay away from northern Baton Rouge. P'arrain's, TJ Ribs and Mike Anderson's, Walk-On's and Don's Seafood are all good restuarants.

Thinking about doing that. Just don't want to take the chance of getting scammed with a fake ticket.

You won't. Youll be fine. If your really worried about that go to the guys with the signs that say we buy and sell tickets... Thats their beusiness so they know whats real and fake and they wont try to scam you. Overall though you should have no problem finding real tickets.

To WarBird : Do not , repeat - DO NOT - trust most of the BS you will see in this thread. MANY Rantards think they are cute comedians , and like nothing better than to BS visitors. Some of the "suggestions" here would prove to be close to dangerous. I will try to help you here:

1. Get a hotel near LSU, off College Drive or Acadian Thruway I-10 interchanges, or on Blubonnet Blvd. The Lod Cook Alumni Center Hotel on Campus would be great. Downtown Hilton is kinda fun, and nice, too.

2. Do not go out to Cortana Mall ( Fla. Blvd/Airline Hwy), or anyplace North of Government Street. All of North B.R. is virtual war zone... ..The Mall of Louisiana @ Bluebonnet Blvd @ I-10, and Towne Center Mall on Corporate Blvd @ Jefferson Hwy, and the Perkins Rowe Mall @ Bluebonnet and Perkins Rd are your best bets for shopping and restaurants of the "chain" type. All these areas are within 10-20 minutes of LSU, traffic permitting ( which can be formidable, ask anyone :-)

3. There is a fun shoppiing entertainment/eats and drinks area very close to LSU called "Old Perkins Rd Overpass" that runs along - what else - Perkins Rd. - that is near City Park Lakes/Golf Course and "Southdowns" neighborhood that has a lot of great "local" food and beverage places and lots of good restaurants. A few are "George's" ( burgers, poboys, specialty plates) , "Ivar's Sprts Bar", "Chelsea's" (right under the overpass with great food and music late night) , and "Duvic's" Martini Bar. Also a Thai food place "RAMA" is right there. This is one of my personal fav areas (Perkins Rd Overpass area ) to hang out in BR. All the joints are within walking distance of each other. Then , If you keep going a little further east ( 2-3, 4 miles maybe) along Perkins Rd and you will get to Perkins Rowe Shopping Mall area at Perkins and Bluebonnet. Also good bars, food, theatres, etc.

4. The Chimes, on Highland Rd. just outside LSU north entry gate - is a local icon/ institution . Great food, lotsa beers. Can't go wrong there. Just a few steps to LSU campus. On the other side of Campus on the south side is "Walk-On's" which is pretty good, and very close to campus.

These are good areas, great bars and food joints, and safe.

Hope this helps..

Smokie is a good man. I use to be part of a hot air balloon crew that was sponsored by Georges. A picture of the balloon is on the wall there.

And there are always super old people sitting at the bar so I added the age up to 101 haha

Might want to consider adding Wampold's Renaissance Hotel on Bluebonnet as well as Sammy's on Highland.

Great Work BTW!!!

Thanks! Sammy's was just an oversite. I talked about it earlier in the thread I believe! Great LSU place. I did some research and the Wampold looks really nice. A bit far but still a vialble option and I added.

I'll end up making this it's own thread at some point so all thedetails are on the front post.

The guys have just about everything covered. I'd like to add in a few things not to be afraid to try on the menus wherever to decide to dine...

Blackened Alligator - (Best when eaten at the Chimes) Do not pass this up, under any circumstances. Also, anything else blackened on the menu will have you slappin' your mother upon your return home.
Gumbo - Seafood is best, the others are still great!
Etouffee - (A-2-Fay) Another LA specialty, great when eaten over fried fish or shrimp, good anytime else.
Fried Fish/Shrimp - It's not like Long Dong Silvers down here, LA folks fry it up a little different. As a side note, the fried shrimp on a lot of Poboys in the BR area aren't good good as ones you'll find on platters. Not sure why.
Jambalaya - (Jumba-lya) This is used as a side item in many restaurants, but is great as a meal. It's sort of like rice dressing, except much mo' better.
Sushi - Not sure why you'd eat sushi in Baton Rouge, but I'll be damned if we don't have some great restaurants. Sushi-Yama,Ichiban's, Tsunami, and Tokyo Cafe are all good places. But like I said, you can just wait until you get home.

Overall, I'd summarize Baton Rouge as a fried food wonderland, devoid of concern for things like health and well being. It's been said here already, but I highly recommend going to The Chimes if you're coming in to see a game. Then just explore campus. Think of something witty to say to tailgaters, like, "We really just came for the food..." or "We realize what is about to happen once kickoff is here to our poor unfortunate team, so we wanted to pack in as much food and good times as we can before that point..." And their food will be yours for the taking.

Lsugamedaycondos.com is the website to rent a condo about 6 hundred yards from Tiger Stadium. It's in Victory Commons. It's the only one available for nightly rental in the complex. Chicken stayed here last year
