I'm curious as to what the rant thinks his best spot in a 3-4 is (of course its Aranda's say) but to me he is a Courtney Upshaw clone 6'1-265 OLB. I wonder if T.Valentine makes it back if they don't move the front to Godchaux, Valentine, LaCouture with Neal and Key as OLB.

He's not athletic enough to play OLB in Aranda's 3-4 opposite Key.

He's strong enough to play 4i and athletic enough to stand up on the edge. I think he'll be just fine

Neal is to heavy to play OLB, he is almost 280 now

Upshaw played ILB with Donte Hightower, and he's not quite mobile enough to play ILB in the SEC now that teams are spread out the offense. Bama adjusted and has since gotten away from that as teams like A&M and Ole Miss were torching them!

No Upshaw played OLB. I see the point that if Neal is 270 or 280 like the other poster stated he might be too big to play that position but in some of his workout videos he post he looks just like Upshaw. Either way he is going to play and play a lot I just hope he can be used just like in this vid.

Jesus dude, you have to post a warning if you are going to link a video to anything that has to do with that fricking game.

Sorry but what video is better to show someone I'm talking about than that video. If you can't watch a great defense (3-4 which LSU is going to) but in a LSU loss. Goddamn get over it guy stop being such a pussy. I want nothing more than LSU to win.

Yall just need to get the entire "University of LSU" TV thing out of your minds until he's officially enrolled in school.

And if that actually happens, keep worrying that Miles does in fact have a system in place that's going to require him to be class every day and study a little.

He's going to be on a very short leash this last chance if he completely blows off Academics yet again............

That was by far the worst blocking by an oline I have ever seen.

Alabama's "3-4" more often than not has 4 guys with their hand in the dirt. A big nose tackle, two big defensive ends, and a big outside linebacker. Upshaw played Jack, which means he rarely played standing up or dropping into coverage. Same goes for Tim Williams, he's an outside linebacker but he sticks his hand in the dirt 95% of the time. The only times when you see Bama with three down linemen and 4 stand up backers is when we're playing LSU and Arkansas. We're usually in Nickel. The Sam comes off the field in favor of the nickel back and the Jack puts his hand in the dirt

That said- Neal looks like a 3-4 DE to me. Jon Allen, Dalvin Tomlinson and Da'Shawn Hand will play that position for us and those four guys are all in the same neighborhood when it comes to size. Either way, that position (de/Jack) in a 3-4 has essentially the same responsibilities, with the Jack being a bit more tailored to drawing a single blocker and rushing the passer
