I didn't know Chicken was a doctor.

Only kidding, this is the Rant after all.
While I agree with the Alleva statement, I don't know if Coach Miles has many more options than what he did.

Also Johns is a sophomore. Jefferson being suspended now is akin to being convicted.

A fair investigation and trial is a right, playing football for LSU is not. The lacrosse players' case was against the DA, not Joe Alleva or Duke.
I wouldn't call reacting to arrests or indictments "jumping to conclusions." His hands have been tied, the outcome of the Duke debacle has no significance here.

I wish every dumbass who said "Yea he sucks as a QB, so he's guilty." Would read this and realize just how stupid they actually are.

Disagree, playing on a football team is not a right, it is a privilege. Like one of my old coaches used to say, you break the rules to go drink a beer and that's what you will be punished for, extra laps, maybe not start, etc. But if some other shite goes down while you were out drinking, you are eating that one too. Everything I hear makes me believe JJ is probably guilty of a lot more than a "routine bar fracas". But even if he isn't, as a coach i would make him eat it as if he were guilty of the worst being said as he was out when he should not have been.

Joe Alleva has experience in controversy, and it’s not a laudable track record. He was the athletic director for Duke University in 2006 when four Lacrosse players were accused of rape. At that juncture Mr. Alleva jumped to conclusion and prematurely determined that the Duke student-athletes were guilty of the crime against a female prostitute. Joe Alleva accepted her dubious testimony over that of the boys and that of their supporting head coach. Further, Alleva forced the resignation of the Duke Lacrosse coach, after he had promised to stand by him as the investigation proceeded in its normal, deliberate course. In this case, according to the coach, Alleva broke a solemn pledge to one of his coaches and exercised notably poor judgment by jumping to conclusion without the benefit of conclusive evidence. He acted on a hunch—and it cost him, and the university—big time. Does anyone else notice a trend in Mr. Alleva’s reactions?

The four Duke Lacrosse players were eventually exonerated in a court of law and each received a multi-million dollar defamation settlement, as their names had been unfairly dragged through the muddy kangaroo court of public opinion—presided over by the hardly impartial, self-appointed, Judge Joe Alleva

good post, brpd consistently said early, early on in the process that 1 or 2 would be charged. this clearlywas said before any "REAL" investigation occurred. alleva has no credibility on this issue (as was pointed out in the article) and he spoke too early and too "INCRIMIMATING").

miles had to suspend jj but he needs to start reconsidering reinstatement after 2 - 4 game suspension.

Lewis Unglesby, has a possible ripe libel lawsuit in the making, as it appears that local law enforcement and the LSU brass, for whatever selfish motivation, have already rendered him guilty as charged.

if it hurts his draft stock with NFL teams, you could have a discussion on the topic

Nope. The BRPD are immune from suits for libel and LSU hasn't unilaterally taken any action to defame his character.

Jefferson is suspended for being charged with a felony; nothing else.

“We will not tolerate student athletes whose irresponsible actions tarnish the good name of a great university. LSU student athletes are expected to behave with the understanding that they represent their school, their fellow students and the long history of this program, regardless of the time of day.

“Coach Miles has already begun taking disciplinary action. It is critical that we are deliberate in determining the facts regarding this incident, and as Coach Miles said, when the facts are clear, additional and appropriate action will be taken if necessary.”

What was he supposed to say? " We really dont think this is a big deal. So what? Some of our players beat the shite out of some kids."

As the Athletic Director, he has to make these kind of statements on behalf of the University. And he didnt point out Jefferson in any of the comments.

Further, Coach Miles has, in my opinion, prematurely rendered punishment, as it is not certainly known whether Jefferson is guilty of the alleged battery charges. Perhaps Mr. Alleva’s noted, knee-jerk preference for doing what he feels is “politically correct,” has affected the situation?

Hasnt is been common knowledge that after the boys were arrested, it was no loner in the hands of the coaching staff?
I want to see the kid exonerated if he is innocent, but the school has rules, and they surpass race, religion, or any other political stance.

No but he loses what he's worked for the last 3 years and that will affect the rest of his life.

Very well put . He is charged but has not had his say and day in court. Hard for both sides of the package. By the way lets not forget the other player charged (Josh).

Seems like a pattern for Joe "It's not about the truth" Alleva to jump to conclusions.

Agreed.

That is a whiny letter filled with little insight into the basics of the criminal justice system, the LSU student conduct system, and the management of a major CFB program.

LSU suspended a QB implicated in a felony. It looks bad for LSU when a representative of the school is involved in something like this. They were well within their rights to take action against him despite the outcome of the case.
