If by it got blocked you mean it hit the snapper in the arse, yes, yes it did.

I can't remember Richey, or any LSU kicker for that matter, kicking straight on. Granted I've only been watching LSU since the Hodson days.

He's the worst kicker I can remember at LSU.

David Johnston in '81 is the last straight-on LSU kicker I remember. The next year, the kicker was Juan Betanzos, and from then on,they've all been soccer-style kickers. Wade Richey included.

I remember fans in the end zone painted a target on a sheet for him to try to hit, because there was no telling where the ball was going, mostly not between the uprights. He could kick it far though, just not accurate!

Seems like I remember Richey getting benched for extra points and short to medium field goals and only used for liking kicks and kick offs.

Dinardo had him kicking traditional style. He was a soccer style kicker in HS. So, at LSU he was very inconstiant. Once he went to San Fran, they let him kick the way he was use to and had a pretty good career. He did have a live leg

This is the exact same thing I had always heard regarding Richey.

I remember Dinardo trotting him out to try a 64 yard FG on the last play 1997 Auburn game that we lost, and the buzz that went through the stadium.

When Richey played against New Iberia, I remember seeing some of his kickoffs going over the fence at Loyd G Porter stadium and hitting the street...... There might have been an extra 10 to 15 yards from the back of the end zone to the fence...

Dinardo fricked that kids college career up, but he had a fuggin Christiano Rinaldo rifle for a leg.

Not to hijack, but he did the same to Tommy Banks career. 1997 Fla game was his coming out party...wasn't heard from after that.

May have been one of the strongest leg kickers to have ever kicked in High school. Not sure why he couldn't get it together as a Tiger. I know he did tweak a hamstring and that's tough on a kicker.

I suspect it was connected to the fact we had three HS All American Quarterbacks and all three were about as successful as Richey until Dinardo was fired.

Check out Tyler mehlhaff too. Nations best kicker out of high school. Went to Whiskey and was a 2 time groza finalist. Drafted by the saints in the 6th and never made it out of camp. Eventually made it to the saints when automitica got hurt celebrating and was replaced by hartley. Huge leg. There's a YouTube video of him kicking 3 step 55 yarders.

Let's see if I can clear this up...

Wade came kicking wedge style with the instep of his foot. They had him roll his ankle and kick closer to the laces which is true soccer style. NOT with his toes and not straight on.
He had an absolute canon for a leg. His kickoffs constantly hit the top of the indoor building, without a doubt the strongest leg ever at LSU. Freshman year at A&M we had to kickoff from the 20 due to a penalty and he kicked it down to 3 yard line into the wind.
He was just never accurate at LSU.

Still holds the school record with a 54 yd fg vs. UK in Tiger Stadium. He kicked it over the chute where the players run out about 10 rows up. In practice, he could hit a 70 yd fg, so Dinardo had no issue trying the 61 yd. fg.

He also was a strong, power cleaning over 300.

He had a decent NFL career mostly as a kickoff specialist.

We have had for more accurate kickers since him, but none of them kicked in the NFL. Danny Boyd replaced Wade, but was not accurate either. He did kick for the Jags for one year.

Craig Nall. Crazy that we had 3 QBs who all played at least briefly in the NFL.

what? he was turrible at LSU and turrible in the NFL

Wide Ritchey

He was on a roster for almost 7-8 NFL seasons or something like that.

He must have been doing something right.

. Richie was great in HS Parade AA, terrible at LSU, but to his credit made it a few years in the NFL.

Lsu13 said best and always heard he was team leader and saying he was bad at LSU is for those who did not live in 70-80's! Also, his sister was a solid player for womens hoops. For me he is like 90%+ of all LSU former players- we should thank them when we see them and know they helped build the elite program we have.
