But are people forgetting how mediocre they were last year
In some wild alternate message board universe some Clemson fan just posted this same message about the LSU Defense. And they weren't wrong.

This would be a great point if we were rolling the same roster out there and depending on a bunch of underclassmen. However, LSU went out and upgraded the talent and depth across the DL and Secondary via the portal. Clemson didn’t do that.

Bro our o-line sounds like straight dog shite...Why you gotta do this...

No they weren’t! We have a lot to prove too, no doubt.
The difference, and yes this is my personal perception, (but I think it’s the national talking heads narrative too) is that Clemson defense will be expected to be great, including week 1.
I don’t see anyone giving our defense that kind of preseason love outside maybe the Weeks/Perkins duo.

Our mediocre OL might be just fine against what might be another mediocre Clemson defense.
That’s the point.
That’s the point.

How do you know they are wildly overrated before they play a game?
They have a lot of the same players back

so those tigers are doing what our tigers did several years right before the start of the season...................telling everyone they are already awesome before they snapped the ball. I hope they have the same let down we had last several years on opening day.

I have no doubt they have, they also have a new DC because they defense was not that good last year. I am sure they will improve, just like our deense did last year.

You do realize the game is this season correct and not last season?
Good catch!

The only thing that really matters is BK has a trend and it’s coming out like shite in game one
Clemson has lost their last 2 openers by a combined score of 62-10.

Clemson was mediocre last season against the run. Good against the pass.
LSU was dead last in the SEC in rushing last season.
So there is obvious concern about LSU's capability to expose weakness in Clemson's defense.

Dog shite is incorrect. Unproven or not tested is true.
A positive to note about the offensive line- there is depth at multiple positions and fresh legs available to come into the game.

I disagree. At least not when they played anyone with a decent passing attack. Against bad teams, sure.

BAD would be a more accurate word.

Agreed.

Good against the pass is a bit of an overstatement.
They ranked 54th in the NCAA in passing yards allowed (214 per game).
In comparison, we allowed 224 per game and I don't think our pass defense last year would ever be called "good".
They had a good amount of interceptions, but also allowed 22 passing TDs compared to our 11.

They can, but you can’t just assume that they will. We had Sage Ryan, Major Burns, JK Johnson, and Greg Penn all returning as mult-year veterans last season. Did they improve?
Our OL was highly touted before the season and even though Chester was new at Center, he came in with very solid recruiting ranking and had a year in the program. He had even played well in a big game at Mizzou in 23 when Turner went down.
Everyone, both local and in the national sports media, naturally assumed that they would take the next step and be a dominant OL. They didn’t. They weren’t bad, but they didn’t progress and even regressed in a couple of areas. They were a disappointment as a group.
People are making the same assumptions about Clemson’s DL. They have a lot of talent, but they have been very inconsistent and got pushed around at times last season.
Maybe they do take a big step this offseason, but the point several of us are making is that you can’t automatically assume it. Not all players get better. Not all units gell and play well together, even if the individual players are talented. That’s just the reality of a sport played by flawed human beings.

Ideally, you never want to have to rotate on the OL. You want the same group out there for as many snaps as possible.
The bigger positive with the depth is that you have real, ongoing competition for at least 3 spots. We didn’t have that here for the last 2 1/2 years. It’s easy to assume that some guys maybe got a little complacent. If anyone does that this season, they are going to lose their job. We should be getting max effort from everyone at all times thanks to that.

I see their DL giving our OL fits.
This should be the main concern for LSU. Hope we have something prepared for that.
