Obviously the o-line is the weak spot of the offense. We've beat that topic into the ground. But how do we get better? We're going to return a lot of experience in 2019 but given their trajectory from week 1 through week 10 this year, are we expecting a big leap forward?

Current Starters:

LT Saddiq Charles (SO)
LG Garrett Brumfield (SR)
C Lloyd Cushenberry (RS SO)
RG Damien Lewis (JR)
RT Austin Deculus (SO)

2nd string:

LT: Badora Traore (JR)
LG: Chases Hines (FR)
C: Cole Smith (FR)
RG: Donovaughn Campbell (SO)
RT: Adrian Magee (JR)

So of our 2 deep, there's only 1 certain departure, that's Brumfield at LG. Chasen Hines has played well in Brumfield's lengthy absence this year. That's a lot of experience returning. I'm not sure I see any underclassmen who'd be candidates to leave early..maybe Cushenberry?

Potential Newcomers:

OT Cam Wire: 2018 3 star 6-6 280 has been out with a knee injury this year

OT Dare Rosenthal: 2018 4 star at DT, transitioned to O-line, redshirted this year. Massive 6-8 333

OG Kardell Thomas: 2019 5 star commit #1 OG in the class 6-3 356, expected early enrollee

I think Charles is a candidate to lose his job at LT to big Dare Rosenthal. Hines should be an upgrade at guard. Can Kardell make a push for a job at Right Guard? How would you feel about

LT Rosenthal
LG Hines
C Cushenberry
RG Thomas
RT Deculus

Rosenthal emerging as our true LT would be fantastic. Opens up other opportunities and gives them flexibility to find the best combination at RT and keep the guards where they need to be...playing the guard positions! This programs need s to have tackles playing the tackle positions. No more guys who are good guards but too slow footed to play tackle being forced to play due to no one else having the skill set required for a tackle!

Agreed. Love the fact that you got a downvote immediately after you posted. The Gump imposters and hardcore Negativer Mutherfudders are in full force. You can smell their a...s straight through the internet.

Thomas might need a year.

That's not a step in position for a freshman.

I've been disappointed in Charles this year. I thought he'd play better than he has. Having a huge body at LT like Rosenthal would be great. I guess it's a matter of how he's learning the position since he wasn't there in high school. Footwork, technique etc.

One thing you can say is were not think at o-line and we're not inexperienced. Our 2 deep should have a ton of playing time next season. They've just got to elevate their game.

if Charles got beat out at left tackle, I do not know if Dec could beat him out as right tackle.

I’m no expert by any stretch of the imagination but, building a O line as a unit seems to be the most difficult thing to do in college football.

What has struck me in recent years is that every off season, we seem to lose one or more players due to off-field issues. This to me is the easiest part to correct.

I hope we improve in 2019.

It’s hard to see Lewis Losing his job at G, being a Sr & one of the only guys that has stayed healthy this year

Hines can play C too.

Thomas really needs to work on his body

Our line will be really good next year with full health.

Thoughts on Deculus coming along. A little bit inconsistent at times but I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be a starter next year. There's been moments where he's looked dominant and others where he's gotten beat badly. Normal development for a first year starter in the SEC I guess.

Charles would probably move over to right tackle. Kardell could possibly push for playing time although Hines probably has it locked up. Deculus could possibly move over to guard. Dare will be a huge upgrade.

I like Deculus. I think he'd be great at guard, actually. We have too many bodies there though. He has been pretty good at RT after a rough start.

Dare was a 5 star OT.

I agree, o-lines take more time and experience to get better than any area on the field. And I would expect all the experience all these kids are getting this year will bode well for next year.

I think some have been over-dramatic about the lack of talent. I think while the talent may not be best in the country it's still better than most.

I'm certainly willing to give the group the benefit of the doubt to see how this experience this year serves us next year.

agree, Cush and Lewis have been the most consistent OL we have had. Nobody did well against Bama but those 2 have been the best 2 from game 1 to game 10. Those 2 will start next year.

Ok the story that I've read here is he was a 5 star offensive tackle but he wanted to play defense. He was listed as a 3 star defensive tackle and that's what he was brought in for.

If they progress the way they have this year we will need to keep a stretcher on the sideline and a lot of quarterbacks on the roster.
