Although its been 59 years since I have been on a college football practice field, I still remember that you must master the basics to play well. When I watch LSU football I see areas that need to improve. There needs to be a more basic practice instead of all this finesse and sophistication.

The offensive lineman need to spend a lot more time on the two man and seven man sleds. The need to study index cards of the blocking assignments rather than spending so much time in the bars at ten o'clock.

The defense needs to practice tackling real people instead to tackling dummies. Tackling dummies do not move and have no leg drive. Practice tackling red shirts and walk ons. They also have to learn convergence. Don't run to where the runner is but to where he is going to be. Because if you run to where he is, he is not going to be there when you get there. You don't shot a duck where is is but you lead him.

As Walter Alston and John Wooden both said, "take care of the basics and you will win"

I agree we need to make sure we're doing the little basic thing right.

But I did laugh at this:

Games are won in the trenches
The oline play has been terrible the past two seasons
Spread or no spread, you still have to be able to run the ball to control and manage the game, plus a running game sets up the things you can do in the passing game

The dline recruiting was neglected under Chavis and that more than anything is what cost Les Miles his job
O did a decent job fixing that but they have to get better at run containment and the 4-3 is an outdated defense to defend the type of offenses in college football
Aranda did a good job of slowing teams enough to be able to win in the fast paced college game
The 4-3 has been a joke and players have been lost the last two years and the tackling from the LB's to the secondary has been awful

They desperately need this tackling lesson from Pete Carroll and the Seahawks of old:

Seems like tackling dummies cause more injuries than the real thing. ??

Agree, we've become soft. Salt tablets and back to 3 a days and they'll have no desire to go to bars at ten o'clock.

We don't need the index cards anymore, as LSU equips its players with tablets to memorize the blocking assignments.

Don’t want other players getting hurt. Could they tackle SJWs and protesters instead?

It took 3 sentences, and an analogy, to make this point?
