MSU still beats us? I'm not so sure. If we don't let Dak have multiple rushes over 25 yards, we might win that baby. In the third quarter on a key third down 17-10, they let him run for 40 yards. Last line of defense before the huge gain? You know the rest . . .

That's your game right there.

Here's the video

LINK

I'd like to know what the call was. Welter blitzing that gap seems very strange to me.

The film room breakdown of that play.

quote:

Prescott’s TD dash: On third-and-3, Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott has one of those Heisman Trophy moments, running for 56 yards for a TD.

Once again, Mississippi State spread out LSU, and the Tigers have a handful of reserves in. The Bulldogs align in a five-receiver set. Meanwhile, the Tigers have freshmen Deondre Clark and Davon Godchaux on the line along with Bower.

LSU is thinking pass all the way, especially safety Ronald Martin (red circle). Martin’s eyes are on Prescott at the snap, but he immediately turns his head toward the two receivers to his side of the field. Meanwhile, Prescott (red arrow), on a called draw play, tucks the ball and races up the middle, while Martin is backing up five yards from his set position. State’s O-line splits a hole with blocks on Godchaux and Clark, and Alexander (black circle) is paying no attention to Prescott. His eyes are on his receiver. Martin was just enough out of position to miss the tackle.

What we haven’t noted is the one linebacker in the box: D.J. Welter. He was at the line of scrimmage at the snap on the opposite side Prescott runs, well out of the play.

You kids are delusional.

Im not wasting my time going back and finding stats from this game, but fact is we were dominated in that game offensively and defensively.

Two garbage tds at the end of the game to make the score look respectful obv has a big impact on some of you guy's ability to remember how a game actually went down.

It just happened to coincidentally "click" right after the 41-7 loss to Auburn, the worst defeat in the Miles era.
It happened once Welter lost his jock in the open field against Artis-Payne...

The 56 yard touchdown wasn't at the end. The game was 17-10 and it was 3rd and 4. You don't have to work backwards, work forward. The master of alignment was in the game, it should NOT have been a structural problem that led to that killer.

Fact is DL improvement is MAIN reason D has improved.
Not Kendall Beckwith's emergence., even though he's certainly helped.

Explain the series beckwith was out on defense. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I remember. Dak gashing the middle of our defense for touchdown after touchdown, strangely resembling the first play that Welter replaced an injured Beckwith on Saturday.

It was amazing to see the difference in run defense when Beckwith went out of the game on Saturday. Unbelievable. It's amazing the difference one guy can make.

we were 2-13 on 3rd down conversions.
IT was 34-10 start of the 4th qrter and our TD was a defensive one by Dhunter.

160 of our 430 total yards came on last two posessions.
No, we wouldnt have beat them that night and fact remains DJWelter was just a small part in an otherwise collosal fricking team beatdown.
If it makes you sleep better to think otherwis, have at it pal.
Its a retarded arguement to even have.

Welter starting for half the season is the most inexplicable personnel decision that I can recall in the last 5+ years. The moment Welter comes in on Sat, the defense goes to shite. Maybe some guys just look different in practice.

Prob the same thing is happening to Harris but we cant get Jennings out of there...just sad...we talkin bout practice...

it clicked because he finally began getting extensive reps

Oh, 2,000 reps in practice wasn't enough, huh? He needed those game reps.

The coaches were watching him in practice; they knew when he was starting to get it. They wanted Beckwith in there so badly that they tried several times to put him in too soon. Same thing they're trying with Harris. Too many ranters are just too stupid to see it.

Or maybe it's not stupidity. Maybe it's the subconscious desire to blame a single individual, thereby escaping with the target of your vicarious longings mostly in tact. My team was great; it was just that one guy.

I saw him in during the State game and he looked like he was asking Kwon where to line up. I didn't see this during the game but later after I watched it again as I taped the debacle of that game. I think it took him some time to learn where and what to do. Now he is not thinking just playing.
