The reality is this. No LSU basketball fan rejects the idea of Wade returning. The rejection comes from people who (a) aren't really basketball fans (same as I'm not really a big baseball fan, so I don't really passionately care about coaching changes there) and/or (b) hate the people who gush hyperbolically about Wade, not actually Wade himself.

I suspect also some degree of sophomoric virtue signalling not appreciating the nuance of the complicated nature of basketball and the longstanding underhanded dealings associated with success. Wade bad bc he’s a cheater while excusing or ignoring same behavior in others.

As an observer here more than regular participant, there also appears to be some weird loyalty and turf war over who is calling shots in LSU basketball and that faction seem to be vehemently opposed to all things Wade. Both make sense considering the support for McMahon can’t be based on performance since objectively he’s the biggest losingest coach at LSU all time so support has to be emotional or ulterior in some capacity.

Because Baylor basketball had essentially received the death penalty before Drew took over and Drew rebuilt the entire program.

The Baylor University basketball scandal occurred in the early 2000s, when Baylor University's men's basketball program was investigated and punished for numerous infractions by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The scandal broke out after the 2003 murder of Baylor basketball player Patrick Dennehy. Dennehy's teammate Carlton Dotson pleaded guilty to the murder and was sentenced to a 35-year prison term.

Shortly after Dennehy's initial disappearance, Baylor and the NCAA began investigations into multiple allegations, ranging from drug use among players to improper payments to players by the coaching staff.

Baylor self-imposed punishments, which the NCAA augmented to include extended probation for the school through 2010, the elimination of one year of non-conference play, and a ten-year show-cause penalty on resigned head coach Dave Bliss.

The sanctions so crippled the basketball program that they didn't have another winning season until 2008. It is one of the harshest penalties ever imposed on a Division I program that didn't include the NCAA's "death penalty"

Baylor faced almost the exact penalties lsu faced when McMahon took over. Probation reduction of scholarships. And McMahon had to rebuild a whole tea bc everyone left.

As as someone who still thinks McMahon did not get the financial support he should have in his first 3 years I believe Wade coming back would be great. He is a young coach and just like players, coaches can learn and develop but one thing he has done very well is evaluate talent. I think that is something that he excels in more than McMahon and not to mention the excitement it would bring to the beginning of next season. Will be an interesting next 3 weeks.

The rumors, theories and sauces are truly the only reason I even pay attention to the basketball coach drama. Can’t wait to see what ridiculous shite gets said.

For the record I don’t follow basketball and I don’t care who the coach is. I fully support whoever the majority here supports. Good luck gents.

To compete, LSU is going to need to increase its spending in basketball on an annual basis probably about 8-10M.

I don't think LSU is going to do that.

Realistically, WW is the perfect coach for LSU, that cannot be denied!

How much big donor support does the basketball program have? That is the main issue!

These days, all it takes is MONEY, and large sums of it.

They spent that this year.

Are you saying LSU / McMahon needs to spend $16-$20 million just to get to the NCAA tournament?

That’s insane

Nice try. Drew took over in an era where transfers had to sit out a year and there was no portal.

Also, Baylor's prior HC (Bliss), LITERALLY tried to cover up the culpability of a player on his team who murdered a fellow teammate.

That was a LEGITIMATE "dark cloud." Not the mild BS our current EPIC LOSER had to deal with.

The circumstances aren't even remotely similar, so no, I wouldn't give this EPIC FAILURE more time like Baylor did Drew.

That's just roster.

In overall spending, LSU was 13th out of 15th in the SEC (Vandy unknown) and was about 5M below the average within the SEC.

When you consider the buyout and the increase that will likely occur to hire a new coach and the commitments you'd need to make to that coach to be competitive, 8M is a pretty reasonable estimate.

LSU just made a HUGE investment in its football program.

I really don't think the LSU admin thinks now is the right time to do the same in basketball.

As I mentioned (you may have missed it), that's just roster expenditures. LSU is 13th out of 15th in overall expenditures. And firing McMahan means a buyout and having to pay a new coach (presumably an increase over McMahon). That coach will also demand the other spending to be increased (including the roster).

If LSU makes a move to really turn this around, it's going to have to increase its annual budget significantly. My estimate was 8M. I think that's really fair. Feel free to disagree and offer a different amount.

But, I just don't think this is the time LSU wants to do it given the way it overspent in football. JMO
