So what was Arnsparger's record before coming to LSU? In my opinion he put LSU back on track.

And Les? What did he do prior to coming to LSU? I remember the backlash when we hired him, too.

Point being, we don't know what is in store with O. We didn't know what was in store with Herman of Jimbo.

O will be the most popular guy in the world as long as he wins. With the first loss it'll be like the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Nick had some years that had all of us wanting him run off until he left. Most of you would take him back even still.

Let this play out. We might be surprised, maybe not.

Are you really comparing a guy who coached in the NFL for 20 seasons, was head coach of the Giants for three seasons, and was a defensive coordinator for more than a decade to Orgeron?

frick you.

Not comparing, just asking a question for some real answers. I ain't pushing O, was sort of wanting either Herman or Fisher.

I am saying we have no clue as to the future. Y'all want admit it but few on here are old enough to remember but when Saban was named H. C. most were asking "who the hell is Saban? Oh yeah, we beat him in the Independence Bowl".

My point being, we had no idea Arnsparger was going to turn it around when he was hired. Glad he did.

We had no idea Les would have the success he had, though I think he should have had more than he had.

O may shite the bed. Herman or Fisher might have too.

He coached for an 0-16 team I believe.

Had a run of the mill short tenure at Oklahoma State. He did little to improve their stock. They have had two peaks -- one with Barry Sanders and one with Gundy as the HC in 2011 -- neither had to do with Miles.

This is not fodder and many just try to block out what they said. I would love for some ClassicDroppings in '04 to show up. Games people wanted Saban gone after:

'00 UAB
'00 Arkansas
'01 Florida
'02 Bama
'04 Georgia
'04 Iowa ( )

I'm right there with you.

Bob Broadhead was the only AD we ever had who truly knew how to think outside the box. Nobody today would ever have the balls to think to go after and actually land a coach like Arnsparger. It's sort of sad actually.

Gospel. He knew to go to the next higher league and pull out a winner. Arnsparger could have been at LSU 5 more years and I think he would have won the NC in '87. I think he would have permanently crippled Tom Tupa and we would have beaten them 42-10.

But then...the recruiting...

I'm not even lamenting the O pick, just that we have a guy presumably in charge of everything now that doesn't even have an inkling of an idea to see beyond two or three complete Captain Obvious options.

I agree. I'm okay with the O pick. O coached his as off for this team and listened to Rap music and cussed with many of them in their living rooms.

Joe is a cancer. Poisonos. A PR nightmare for LSU. Matt Mascona, you are only 36-37 years old, and you are WRONG. Joe is horrific.

Well, that and had 3 winning seasons in a row after Ok St had 1 in the previous 12.

A lot has changed in college football in 30 years.

A coach like the old man likely wouldn't see success in today's game .

I guess, but he also decided to promote defensive coordinator Mike Archer to head coach over hiring Steve Spurrier, Mike Shanahan, or Mack Brown. No AD is perfect.

On the flip side, the guy who gave us Curley Hallman also gave us Nick Saban. That was Joe Dean, an LSU alumni.

I had some issues with Broadhead but he could hire coaches and you right, looked outside the box and got the guys he wanted whatever it took.

If he don't hire Skip baseball would probably still be on the same level as tennis here, which was where it was when Skip came.
