Bo told Les to go out and build his own dynasty.

Saban told Les that dynasties were like luxury homes. Nice to live in, but always be ready to flip them for a tidy profit.

Why on earth anyone would want to leave a premier team in a premier conference where you have every recruiting advantage and are set up to compete for titles for years to come and trade that for a 3 year stint in the grinder that is the NFL is beyond me.

I always wonder this. NFL head coach seems like a significantly less enjoyable job in every way. It just doesn't seem to fit Miles' personality.

Plus anyone who is even slightly interesting or out of the ordinary gets chewed up and spit out by the NFL.

Nonsense

You think a NFL fan base won't add up how a number of college coaches bust in the NFL and "this guy comes off as unintelligent and strange," to mean a bad coaching hire? I can guarantee you that will happen, especially if a traditional NFL power franchise hires him.

Owners will do their homework and know it would be a harder sell.

It's not that hard if a sell to a fanbase to hire the coach of the number one college team in the country.

You may not think of miles highly but I can guarantee you are probably in the minority when it comes to people whose opinions matter.

What planet have you lived on for the last 6 years?

And I don't understand why the NFL still wants to think a good college coach will make a good pro coach. How many times has that failed?

I think Les enjoys the college game, he already makes close to the same salaries as some NFL head coaches. He has seen the pros and chose to return to college and honestly I think many coaches would trade places with Les, maybe even Saban

I think of Miles very highly. I think he would be a good NFL coach. Doesn't blind me from the likelyhood that a NFL fan base wouldn't agree with me.

Uh, the team that always overachieved from its stats and reality because they were always motivated? Do you remember the 8-5 team with the worst looking defense in LSU history? How about finishing in the top 10 last year with some of the worst quarterbacking in LSU history? Fighting and overcoming adversities, that is what being up for every game is all about, that is the team I've been watching for the last 6 years. Don't confuse X's and O's coaching with motivation.

Plenty. How many times has it succeeded? Sure lots of high profile college coaches have failed as NFL coaches; but lots of high profile NFL assistants have failed as NFL coaches too.

The thing about the NFL is, given a long enough time frame, almost everyone is a failure because there is a very strong pull to regress to the mean. There are some exceptions - Walsh, Belicheck, Shula. But most coaches, even very good coaches, end up with some 4-12 or 5-11 years because that's the nature of the league. And if two of those happen in a row you get fired. Look at Haslett - at one point he was widely touted as the Saints' best coach ever; look how that turned out.

Miles has already stated he loves the college game and teaching young athletes and he's not interested in the pro's. Personally, I don't think he would make a good pro coach, he's cut out for the college game.

Ego maniacs like saban, petrino, spurrier are not a good fit.

i'd guess that the majority of NFL coaches are ego maniacs (esp those not in the dungy tree)

you think bill bellichek, sean payton, mike mccarthy, etc aren't ego maniacs?

yeah there is no magical formula for picking the right NFL coach. if you could derive it, you could probably make $10-20M every time an NFL team had a coaching opening

Here.

We.

Go.

Again.

First we could not ever rest because Nicky was always a courtin' the NFL. Now that we have all finally gotten around to really likin' Miles, now this. I guess its all par for the course.
