Competition (by Les Miles ) - A "statement of obviousness" that says that more than one player at each position on the field is involved in practice, so thus has some theoretical chance of playing. It is not to be confused with the word contention, which would imply that there is some reasonable chance that either of the two "competing" players could win the role of starter.
