Those who think he handled it poorly most likely would have had agreements in place beforehand to avoid this type of circumstance. You prepare for the possible, no matter how unlikely it may seem to you.

quote:Maybe you should read the article before you start talking out of your arse. Fordham decided to join the team as a walk-on so he could be on the team this fall. I'm sure anyone asked to grey-shirt could have done the same if they could afford to pay.
Why does money matter since he's not enrolling at all? They aren't asked to foot the bill. They're asked to not go to school.

There you go again, being dishonest and twisting my statements. I would never have been in this situation.
The problem isn't with gray-shirting genius, but that no plan/agreements were in place for this possibly happening. If there were plans in place, they failed miserably.
If it were up to me, assuming the kids weren't willing to gray-shirt from the start, I'd have picked the 25 I felt best fit team needs and told the others the class is full and given them the opportunity to go elsewhere more than 1-3 days before fall camp started.
The reason Porter is having to reconsider is he's stuck between a rock and a hard place. It's not easy to find another school with 3 weeks or less before classes start.
It's not specifically PORTER and that's the problem you idiots can't seem to grasp. It's being in this position at all.

I feel bad for Porter in the way it happen, but it happened, now he got to decide if he wants to go to LSU or not.
As far as Miles, he had to make a decision based on what has occurred, as much as you want to blame MIles he had no other options.
He could have not offered the Kid giving him no opportunity to come to LSU, which many on this board would have cursed him for or offer him based on the fact that if just one player didn't qualify or Lee signs a baseball contract the numbers are not and issue. I believe most people would have choosen to offer and hope the numbers worked. They didn't and both Miles and Porter suffer.
I love this crap about poor Porter spending the summer at LSU working his butt off and this somehow being a negative. What would the Kid have done otherwise, eat doughnuts. Whether he stays at LSU or goes somewhere else he got to work with the finest coaches in one of the finest weight rooms all summer. I personally think he should appreiate that!! It helped prepare him for footbaall where ever he goes. Plus he still has the opportunity to play at LSU, if this is where he really wants to be, if not good luck to the young man.

The fact that Miles was in this situation at all of not having players agreed to take Gray-shirts well before hand if this happened is what everyone is blaming him for. PERIOD. Not the specific kid, although doing this to a kid that's been training with the team all summer just makes it worse.

Can you even imagine the outcry if Miles had forced Ego or someone of his caliber to greyshirt?
"It's never about the first semester, it's always about the body of work. I'm committed to these guys for a career, not just a semester. Is it optimal? Absolutely not. Is it the thing I would have loved to have done? No, absolutely not."
Sound familiar? It does to me. Yes it stinks for Porter.. but if he's patient it will all just vanish. He needs to look at the big picture.

I actually see nothing wrong with what occurred. This is now two years in a row that every LSU recruit has qualified. Do you all realize how rare that is? I saw the suggestion that we should only sign 25. The whole purpose of over-signing is because in a normal year, you lose several recruits to academics, etc. So if you sign just the best 25, you would end up with holes in your class. Oversigning allows you to fill the holes. This is just a weird year that, unfortunately for Porter, it didn't work out. They probably didn't think that Lee and one or two others would ever see campus. I find it very unlikely that the discussion fo greyshirting never occurred with Porter before yesterday...

If Porter's contention that the first time greyshirt was discussed with him was on Monday, than yes, Miles and Co. dropped the ball. This subject should have been discussed well befor ethis time so that Porter and his family could take their time when making important decisions regarding his future. I'll say he was treated badly. I would expect my coach to give me some idea before this.
It does not matter what anyone else does, this is between CLM and the Porter family. Unless we do not have all the story, they deserved better.

Yea, I could have named about 10 other guys before him.....Chris Tolliver would have been right up there.

The kid said so himself. You have a better source on what the kid was or wasn't told? I'll go w/ his word

They just found out everyone qualified a few days ago. When was he supposed to break the news? Im sure there were several kids that knew if it came down to it they would be offered the grayshirt....it just happened to be Porter.
