A few years ago people were saying Les was the second coming of Larry Coker. That one has not come to fruition either.

How close of color of hair does Mack and Les have. Simply astounding if you ask me.

Mack Brown's recruiting went downhill Les's has not

This is really a pleasant surprise for me. With all the perceived negativity about a "downslide" and the near firing of Miles, how does he maintain his recruiting prowess? Not only maintain - it seems we're in the greatest 3-4 year recruitment cycle in the school's history. Our success in recruiting wide receivers is even more perplexing. I'm happy for it, and I absolutely LOVE our coach - I'm just surprised that the decline isn't real.

There are definitely similarities. But LSU has never really declined. 8 wins has been the floor and at a time where the SEC West is historically excellent. LSU never really declined like Texas did, they have just been surpassed. 2016 could correct that.

Pulling for your Horns this year.

Brown went 30-21 in his last 4 years after his last Big XII conference championship (2009) - A conference where Oklahoma State is the only team in the conference to lose less than 2 games in a season since 2009.

Miles is 37-14 since his last SEC Championship (2011) in a conference that has produced 9 of the last 10 National Champions.

If Miles had 3+ years of any of Applewhite, VY or Colt McCoy, we'd have another 2-3 national titles. With those 3, Brown got 1.

Miles had Jamarcus Russell for two seasons and could never win the SEC. He wouldn't win 3+ national championships. Flynn and Mettenberger were pretty solid quarterbacks as well.

Brown didn't lose 2 games and "back into" his NC season either.

Some of y'all are crazy for shitting on Mack Brown. Look at his record compared to Miles.

quote:

98: 9-3
99: 9-5
00: 9-3
01: 11-2
02: 11-2
03: 10-3
04: 11-1
05: 13-0
06: 10-3
07: 10-3
08: 12-1
09: 13-1
10: 5-7
11: 8-5
12: 9-4
13: 8-5

Now look at Miles:
quote:

05: 11-2
06: 11-2
07: 12-2
08: 8-5
09: 9-4
00: 11-2
11: 13-1
12: 10-3
13: 10-3
14: 8-5
15: 9-3

It isn't any better. Other than that lone 5-7 season, you can't say that Miles 2005-2013 record is any better than Mack's 2001-2009. Mack's last two seasons are essentially the same as Miles as well.

ETA: Mack Brown inherited a 4-8 team as well...not a Rolls Royce of talent like those 2005 and 2006 LSU teams.

Consider this - Miles has only had (2) 5 loss seasons at LSU - one of which he rebounded from to take the program to a NC game. Brown lost 5 or more in 3 of his last 4 seasons and the program never rebounded. In that respect I think Miles is better even without considering the competition. Miles faced 3 top 5 teams in his worst season (2014) since his last SEC Championship in 2011. Brown faced 1 team in his last 4 seasons combined after his last Big XII Championship.

lie. It was only until after his 3rd straight 4+ loss season, did his recruiting fall out of the top tier.

His last 5 years were 6th, 2nd, 4th, 2nd, then 17th.

To have 3 top 6 classes, a 17th ranked class, all on the same team, and still finish 8-5, did him in. That is what they call expectations. He got sloppy towards the end of his tenure

I'm just glancing at the old Texas schedules. And while I'm not comparing it to LSU's, I think ridiculous to say they weren't playing talented teams. You're also focusing strictly the end of Mack's career (which is looking similar to Miles past couple of seasons).

2010:
#8 OU
#5 Nebraska
#25 Baylor
#12 Oklahoma State
#17 A&M

2011:
#3 OU
#6 Oklahoma State (we all remember the controversy and how we felt that we should be playing them in the NC and not Alabama)
#16 K-State
#19 Baylor

2012:
#8 West Virginia
#10 OU
#20 Texas Tech
# 7 K-State
#15 Oregon State

2013:
#25 Ole Miss
#10 OU
#10 Oklahoma State
#9 Baylor
#10 Oregon

What record keeps Strong safe for another season? I'm kind of surprised he's on the hot seat after what he walked into. I'm assuming 9-4?

Just like with LSU and really any major program, it will come down to who the losses were to, extremely important just like with LSU but maybe even more so because of the instate factor, and how they play down the stretch.

Always rooted for Coach Brown being an SAE, and also he is just one of the nicest people you will ever meet, also on the local note while it may not been didly squat, the Tulane connection is kind of cool and very interesting to myself atleast.

What? Still making money watching from afar as LSU struggles to find a decent replacement.

I really hope you are not an LSU fan. Winning your conference is not backing in. A two loss team was playing in that title game. LSU won on the last weekend, others didn't.

Mack brown was a good coach, and so is Les.

Les still has some coaching left, so maybe we can wait until his career is over and then compare.

One thing is for sure, Brown didn't have to face the Goat every year. Les has gone unscathed in the sec gauntlet, something sabans done only once and is not easy.
