LA is top 3 recruiting states easily. having the whole state to yourself is waaaay better than fighting UT and OU for recruits, two of the premier programs in college football.
Thank you for proving my point. Go back and re read that post. You took that one section out of context.
Can we all just agree Les and Nick are both great coaches?

good to see so many people took the bait

Hey dumbass if you have been a fan that long I'm not refering to you. And they fight OU in recruiting dumbass where ever they recruit which is mainly North Texas, Dallas, Fort Worth area dumbass. So they also fight Texas it is easier to recruit at LSU for him. Just like it was easier for Nick Saban than when he had to fight Michigan dumbass.

I give a very slight edge to Saban due to the fact that he turned around a losing program and Miles did not
That is my point and I also don't see LSU being the powerhouse it is today if Les had been the one to come in after Dinardo. Does anyone believe that w/o Saban coming to LSU we would have won 2 national titles last decade?

Never seen someone called dumbass four times in one post.

Dinardo and Saban started locking down the state recruits don't you think that and the fact Saban brought LSU to elite status it has made Miles's job easier recruiting?
They laid the foundation which is harder than sustaining.

Topwater, your crazy. Saban took over a down & out Bama team,LSU team & made them great. Mack Brown took over a lousy Texas team, Bob Stoops the same @ Oklahoma, even Jimbo Fisher @ Fl St. It is much harder to sustain a good program, more pressure on the Head Coach. Ask Wade Phillips, he's ruined every winning NFL team he went too{ Denver,Buffalo Bills,Dallas Cowboys. Jasson Garrett is going to look like the Messiah compared to Wade.Look at the history of past Champions, think you will be surprised.

I remember the "Dark Days" of Curley & Jerry D. I appreciate what Saban did for us but he showed his true character in how he left. Since Les Miles came aboard he has maintained what Nick had started and in some ways improved things. Les has show his loyalty to us when he could have went back to Michigan. He's shown he loves LSU and the green grass in Death Valley!

Harder to sustain a winner than to build one? That is absurd. Think about what you are saying. All the recruits that are 18 years old right now only know LSU to be a winner since when they were 7 or 8 LSU has been good/great. In the 90's LSU lost tons of great in state talent b/c they were losers.....most kids want to go play for a team where they can compete for championships. Or let me rephrase that most of the top recruits want to go to winners. Sure some are diehard fans of a school and go there but I remember in the 90's all the inner city NOLA kids wore FSU and Miami paraphanalia now they are LSU fans.

Can you expound on how his character is bad for leaving for one of the most lucrative job offers a college coach has ever been offered. So anyone who gets offered a better job and tons of money has character issues?

probably should say best football coach ever.
he's putting together a strong run. if he's there until his contract is up, he probably will be looked at as the best.
although, he needs to win some more west titles. 2 in 7 years isn't that good. and only one sec outright championship. that's really the only snag i see.

You guys can beat it to Saban all you want, the fact is he left Lsu. To me, that means something. The other thing that means something is wins vs losses, and Les hands Nick his @ss in that category. But...but...but.. Uncle Nicky left Lsu with great players....
Sure he did, but HE LEFT. Would he have won as many games as Les has since then? I don't think anyone else could, especially not Nick with his up and down games. I used to think maybe Urban Meyer, but he cracked. UL-Monroe. What?

What is the point of continuously defending the previous head coach who now coaches our biggest rival? I guess I never will understand why some lsu fans will defend Saban at all costs but continuously trash on the success of the current coach and downgrade any accomplishments. Why would an lsu fan do this?

It depends how you look at it. Les has maintained a championship progrsm to major bowl games each year including 2007 NC. So he is in the argument for great head coach.
You cannot deny (as much as you dislike him now) that Nick Saban brought us out of the toilet to good bowls including Sugar and 2003 NC. He built this program! He went from embarassing program to NC elite program. Argue all you want but that is why I think Saban was the greatest.

As I said earlier....
Nick has the edge thanks to rebuilding the program and the extra SEC Championship...
Les wins another SEC Championship, plays in another National Championship and it would be a dead heat but Les would have tie breaker thanks to overall record.

This arguement will go on and on. Look it is hard to build and to maintain it. Saban is a great coach and a tool I think Miles is a great coach and not a tool. Saban did not come here to team completely devoid of talent they were several NFL players on the damn roster. The team had simply quit on Dinardo as evident in the last home of 99 when they beat down the SEC west champs. He immediately began to change culture and started winning with the talent that was there. All I'm saying is Miles had it harder at OSU and to dismiss the job he did there is not right.

You just made my point, Curley Hallman destroyed LSU, he couldn't recruit, he couldn't coach. All I remember was his lousy potato chip commercials. You are right about one thing, Saban made LSU one of the top 7 schools to coach at & be successful if you could recruit well(keep in state blue chippers)But no matter how good your past is, Notre Dame,Michigan,USC,Alabama or Texas, your Head Coach had better be a damm strong one,or it's going downhill fast.
