i've seen too many leg whips and chop blocks that end with injury. the penalty should be more severe. as in ejection.

I watched one of the plays in slow motion and it was very very obvious. It happened to Mingo. The Oregon lineman whiffed on his block and tried to make up for it by kicking his leg out. Mingo basically bent in half when the guy's leg hit him in the stomach/thigh area.

It was a bush league move and I'm glad they got flagged for it. Could have injured Mingo if it caught him in the knee.

My co-workers brother is on the sidelines as an equipment manager or some crap. He said the LSU coaches were telling the refs to watch for the illegal blocks. Either they saw it in film or they caught them early on because they never got away with it. If only they could come to Auburn with us.

there weren't manyu replays of O offensive plays...I attributed this to lack of time due to it's offensive tempo

Thing is, for such an impressive conference the SEC has some of the worse officials in the country.

Hope they keep making these calls. The offensive lines we face this year will be doing anyting possible to slow down this redicuolous defense.
Auburn will be trying to take legs out for sure.

did you actually see it happen

I rewatched the game the next day and rewound the first one and you can see it. Did not try to look for the second. 1st one was pretty blatant.

I was sort of watching the TCU v. Baylor game, and saw these called as well. I believe the NCAA changed up the rules a bit, and the officials are now looking for these infractions and calling them.

Leg whips are coached and it's dirty football. I suspect the Ducks got away with that cheap, dirty play (leg whips, chop blocks, grabbing face mask) all last season.

That was the point.

Had this been an SEC crew, there would have been no flags, but rest assure the ref would have seen the dirty play and would have been the first person on the field to see if our injured player was OK (see the Dorsey play in 2007 with the corrupt official).

Dont most refs call this tripping?

I've heard this called quite a few times. Never heard it called as "Leg Whipping" though. I too was surprised they didn't show the replays.

Did they show them on the COX replay?

I'd hate to think this was the case, but there's probably some truth to it. I can just imagine the o-line coach and Kelly were sitting around watching video thinking, "We've got to come up with some way to slow down these corn-fed monsters at the line." Jokingly the o-line coach says with a smile, "We could teach them to leg whip." Kelly, gets quiet, raises an eyebrow and says. "Do it...quietly."

Those poor shlubs didn't know what hit them at the start of that game.

I DVR'd the game. I watched number 70 dive in front of one our d-linemen trying to do some f'd up MMA looking leg-sweep. It's stupid to do in my opinion...penalty or not.

Yes, I know. My critique of SEC officials was a direct response to SEC officials not calling the penalty and not who called the game.
