He’s making seven figures a year to stand there and have to hear a question about why his team is struggling in a certain area.

If that’s such a problem I’m sure the media in Reno is much more forgiving

To me it doesn’t feel like a lineup thing as much as it feels like guys are getting in their heads in these ABs with clear scoring opportunities.

They’re fine when they play loose. Idk how you fix that.

White is legitimately a great hitter and whiffed out chasing two obvious ball fours. That’s mental. Gotta let go and just play your game.

Cool, the answer is obvious. Its random lack of success over a large sample size, but that quote would lead to followup questions

No, it's not a stupid question.

It absolutely is.

The people around here act like there is some kind of drill or coaching move that makes Travinski hit a solo HR but strike out looking foolish with bases loaded. It’s asinine.

Then answer those questions too

Or don’t

But don’t criticize the media for asking the question.

She had the balls to ask, jay lacks the balls to answer.

Plate discipline is one big reason for starters.

What is he supposed to say? Throw a player(s) under the bus?

Say the obvious that they aren’t getting timely hits on when there are bases loaded?

Say “that’s baseball”?

He could say a lot of things to help provide simple, general context for the average baseball fan. What's his philosophy in those situations? Has something been occurring to complicate the situation? Is the team being overly aggressive at the plate? Not aggressive enough? Have they been spending extra time working on that situation?

Answering an obvious question doesn't mean you have to throw players under the bus.

He could say

“yeah we left a lot of runners out there. We need to get hitting with runners in scoring positions and maybe change our approach at the plate but we have really good hitters so im confident we’ll improve with RISP”

It’s a stupid question. We had 5 RBIs yesterday with runners in scoring position but they weren’t hits, so they don’t improve the 4/38 stat.

It’s dumb.

He doesn’t have to answer some shitty question like that… he doesn’t become the coach of LSU without having an insane baseball IQ combined with a stellar coaching mind.

It’s insulting.
Sometimes guys just don’t deliver.

Of course there is an approach that he beats into the heads and puts into practice with the athletes

Except that wasn't the case here today. The RISP batting was absolutely awful and mental. This has been a problem lately with RISP and it's definitely largely mental if you look at how they're approaching the ABs. White cost us several runs just by him swinging at pitches a mile outside the zone. Same with Trav but he made up with it with an earlier HR. When White and Trav missed it in the 8th that was 2 guaranteed runs. White had probably the worst AB I've seen this season so much so he looked like a clown swinging at the first RISP bases loaded attempt. It is what it is and it was definitely mental.

Jay shut that question down Didn’t even answer it

Jay is an analytics guy. Analytics say there is no such thing as “clutch” hitting. Over time law of averages takes place.

One of the bases loaded moments was with the best rbi guy on the team with the less than 2 outs. He struck out chasing a high fastball. He hasn’t done that all year. Unfortunately that is part of the game.

And he sure doesn’t coach people to strike out when the bases are loaded.

No, but it seems maybe he doesn’t coach people not to swing at a pitch literally over their heads when you have a 3-2 count.

Here are his options to that question:

1. Throw a player under the bus - players pissed

2. Answer the question with bullshite coach speak - half the fans are pissed

3. Dismiss her question - Leah’s white knights are pissed

Option 3 was the correct one.

I agree.
Today and sometimes lately.

That’s not a reflection of Johnson or what they’ve been drilling all year.

I get the concern, I really do.

But as a former baseball player, I did dumb shite allll the time that wasn’t a reflection of my mental approach or preparation.

Leah is a dummy. I wonder who told the DEI hire to ask that question.
