Expectations. He was the one who was supposed to take us to the dance and get us at least a 5 seed. We are on the outside looking in, and although it may not be his fault, people need someone to blame.

Nobody wants to blame themselves for their own faulty expectations.

I'm just saying the dude isnt doing enough to help this team win consistently. For fricks sake, we're likely not even going to make the ncaa tourney.

You're going to tell me with a straight face that if you had to chose one for the Alabama game you'd chose Victor?

Can you imagine this team without Simmons? Yeesh.
I'm not arguing talent or potential. But, if you tell me that the same 2 players are going to show up that played in the last 2 games I'm easily taking Victor. I'll take proven production and effort over potential 24/7.

Can you imagine this team without Victor? Oh wait....just take a look at the schedule with and without him on the floor.

exactly, and he won't. Nobody is saying hes not any good, we're just saying he's unrefined and can't make us the team we thought he could. simple as that. I love the dude and can't wait to watch him develop, but his lack of development at this stage is part of the reason this team won't meet expectations come post season.

That combined with the fact the entire team went cold on their 16-3 run didnt help. aTm played a great second half and plays great halfcourt D.

Those are the facts. In each game, when our outside scorers can't buy a basket, we lose.
If Hornsby, Samson, Patterson, and Blakely are throwing up bricks, we aren't going to win many games.
If the outside shots are falling it opens the floor for Simmons and Victor to do their thing.

You people cant appreciate basketball IQ, cause you dont have any yourself. you tune in expecting to see something unreasonable and when you dont see it, you call him a bust. You people are pathetic. you know who you are.
I certainly don't think he is a bust, but if he is not a threat from the perimeter, it allows the defender to play soft which takes away the dribble penetration.

Secondly, how can he be a force in the paint if he seems to play point most of the time? He seems to be a "hybrid" player with no defined position at this point.

I don't see how his "game" at this point makes him ready for the NBA next season.

He may develop this shot later on in life or he may not. However, I can tell you that I care much more about LSU basketball than the future of Ben Simmons. Ben should think the same way if he is going to go to school and playing basketball here, even if it is for a short period of time.

With that said, if they are going to give you a wide open 15- 17 foot Jump shot you take that every time, and try to get in a rhythm. Also, if you know they are going to give you that shot every game, then you should be working on it all day every day. And like you said he'll be in the NBA next year, so i doubt he is really dedicating too much time to the books right now anyway.

IF you know and understand basketball, you understand that this team lacks discipline, hustle, and fundamentals that should be better coached.

Simmons has talent galore. He does lack the ability to take over when his team is out of sync. I personally believe it's coaching there as well. To have such a talent and not get more fire out of him is disappointing to fans.
We have to get better THIS year or JJ's seat should be too hot to sit on.

Can also tell you that i would rather have a Jabari Parker type player that can actually knock down the shot and take it to the rack and score at will than a guy who wants to pass it until he realizes that we are down in the second half.

is because Victor was limited by foul trouble

maybe simmons should have tried to take the game over

The reason we lost was because over the last 30 min of the game our offense was atrocious. Defense played well at times but we showed terrible effort at tiems (may have been with who was in the low post and not effort as much as talent). I don't understand how Quarterman and Gray can continually make terrible decisions driving the ball into trouble and turning it over.

Simmons will be a better NBA player than he will a college basketball player. There are 2 or 3 players in the SEC that have a better college game than he does at this point. To say that those people that expected him to put this team on his shoulders and carry them to the tournament had unreasonable expectations is being disingenuous. Nobody expected him to average 40 points a game, but people expected him to be able to take over games and create terrible mismatches. To this point, his biggest threat offensively is getting to the line.

I can't lie...I expected him to be a threat offensively from the perimeter. I never would have guessed he would be touted as a PF and have absolutely no jump shot.

You seem awful angry and defensive. No one imagined 11-7 with this team at this point in the season. We shouldn't be this bad. So either JJ is screwing the pooch and not doing his job or Ben is not living up to the hype...completely. I think its a combination of both. The double-doubles are nice and all but arent translating to wins. I've sat close to the LSU bench at a number of games and have watched his body language coming in and out of the game. Maybe he is really low key, I don't know. But he does seem to be simply biding his time here at LSU at certain points of the game.

I'm gonna say it one last time and be done with it. Ben Simmons will be great, but isn't right now and his lack of a killer instinct is PART of the reason LSU will likely miss the NCAA tourney come march. Call me what you want, but understand that this is a forum dedicated to speaking your own mind and expressing your own opinions, so quit with the silly childish name calling and try to understand what you clearly don't.

I'm not trying to be an arse, but he's on our team. It's LSU fans that are watching him every game, so it's to be expected that LSU fans will be the ones commenting, both good and bad.
