From an article in the Morning Advocate:
“Maybe he’ll be like Chad Jones for us. Even if he’s a lefty specialist. We’ll have to play that one by ear.”
It also clears up the timing of his return. When he completes his "throwing program" he'll throw some bullpens before insertion in a game, but he's basically ready by about May 1. Game usage just depends on how effective he is in practice.

Another effective LHP in the bullpen would be a huge asset.

It's a shame Latz couldn't really be a factor this year. I think he'd definitely be in the weekend rotation moving Godfrey to a very solid weekday guy.

If the May 1 timing holds up, we may see him in some midweek games late in the season, but his real value will be adding some postseason depth to our bullpen. I can definitely see him competing for a weekend starter spot next year, though.

Godfrey

I'm gaining more confidence in Godfrey with each start he makes. Control is still an issue, but his stuff is nasty. The run he gets on his fastball makes him very tough to hit.

Although I strongly believe Latz is a weekend starter next year, it will be nice to have another lefty in the bullpen...especially around tournament time.

Same here. We've been spoiled by Lange who was basically ready from day one, but Godfrey has had some nice outings lately. Crazy to think our midweek starter next year could easily be the Friday guy at a lot of other schools.

Additions of Latz and Deichmann later in the season is gonna be huge for us

We may only get him for regionals onward... But he's going to be huge for us.

The few games he threw in the fall, he was right there with Lange for best stuff. 90-92 from the left side with probably the most movement on the team besides Strall.

What's incredible is that those are basically our best freshmen this year and we've kicked arse without either seeing the field.

I agree. His first few games he was terribly inconsistent. You could see potential, but just didn't have the control. He was also very emotional and I think it allowed pressure to get to him. He allows a lot of batters to get into full counts which drives up his pitch count. I think he's starting to get a handle on his control or at least is better able to work with it, and doesn't seem to get himself into as many jams as he did early on. Either way, for a freshman pitcher, I think he's done pretty well and is more than an adequate 3rd starter.

It still makes me think, if Latz is as good as advertised, and Lange certainly seems to be, just imagine if we had a rotation of Lange, Poche, Latz with Godfrey as a weekday starter. That's pretty nasty. And I believe we should get all of them back next year, god willing no one gets hurt. It definitely bodes well for us going forward.

I think too many people are skimping out on Godfreys play thus far and only comparing to Latz potential.

Latz, Lange, and Godfrey will all be weekend guys by their junior year in my opinion.

Having a lefty throwing 96 out of the pen would be the tits.

He'll get there, he won't be throwing nearly that this year.
