Mauck in 2003.

He was one of the few LSU qb's qho went out on a high note during his injury of '02 and everyone was just beginning to really like him after the VT debacle. Randall, of course, fools everyone a week later vs. SC and then we saw the worst of him in the Auburn 7-31 loss a week later. I had never been so happy to see Matt Mauck as I was in the '03 opener ve. ULM.

I wouldn't have given you 10 cents for him before the season started. Sure do miss him now...

I really feel sorry for Howard- he really loved being a Tiger, but will forever be remembered for the Auburn game disaster. Folks forget he signed a pro-baseball contract, but still came to LSU to play football.

Rohan was very popular when he was QB.

Of course that was before my TD days (and maybe before TD was what around, at least in its present form). I do have the nagging suspicion that there are a few posters around that would have found Rohan wanting.

Rohan Davey, Matt Mauck (given the alternative), and JaKookus in '06 are 3 that i don't think anyone here would argue about.

I can't say that I didn't prefer RP to Flynn.

I can actually recall some folks thinking Mickey Guidry should play more.
That was the first thing that popped into my head when I read that. That was the first time I remember hearing that the most popular man in Baton Rouge is the backup QB for LSU. Guidry was a pretty damn good QB, but I could not believe people continued to call for him to start over Hodson. I guess that just more proof some people never needed the internet to make themselves look like idiots.

Hodson is LSU's best quarterback ever.
I never even thought there was a question until the '06 season. JaMarcus really was just unbelievably good at LSU. But so was Hodson.

I really, REALLY wouldn't mind those being our choices this year . . .

I'm thinking that's probably the answer. If not, maybe Herb Tyler '96 (I remember there were some grumblings right before the Florida game in '97).

i don't remember much replace flynn talk in 2007 tbh.
Well there was a lot of hype about RP, so every time we struggled offensively (even for a drive), you could likely hear some "Perrilloux would have made a play" or words to that effect.

I don't recall there ever being a groudswell of "get him out!" like there was with Booty or Jarrett Lee, but I did hear some rumbling from time to time.

everyone SHOULD have known that in 03 Mauck was best for the job, 06 Russell, and 07 Flynn.

And 08/09 RP, 10, uhh, never mind.

again like I said I was there when both were booed in their own stadium, more than once

You sure they were booing the players and not the coaches? I seriously never recall Flynn or Mauck being booed. Flynn's 2007 stats were pretty impressive and he didnt throw much before 2007. Mauck had 37 TD's and over 3800 yards. who the frick booed him?

Im suprised no one has mentioned JRussell of 2006. I remember everybody was begging that he would skip the draft and come back to LSU. Mainly because everybody thought there was no way we could do anything with Flynn as our QB. And I think that if Russel was raping the NFL like everyone thought he would, more people would have said his name in this thread.

Wrong. Though he was a freak, he made too many mistakes over the course of a season to win a NC. Many people, especially older people who have been around the game longer, realized the benefit of having more of a game manager like Flynn and wanted him to start his entire career. I personally was ready to see Flynn start in 07, Russel had his chance. Who knows how good he could have been had he started more than one year.
