It is 100% true. It's a state contract.

If no donor steps in... how would the buyout get paid?

Im genuinely curious

I'd imagine TAF is responsible if no donor steps in.

There no question that it must be performance based. You pay that kind of money when they deliver.

Good luck attracting any big name candidates then when every other school will be willing to pay guaranteed money.

I don't know why this is so hard to understand.

There seems to be a strong correlation in this thread between people who don't understand how contracts work and those who don't like Landry. Draw your own conclusions.

That's not legal.

The LSU athletic director and board of supervisors can not levy a fricking tax on the people of Louisiana. How fricking retarded does he think we are?

Do you know where your tax dollars go? Do you get an itemized ledger? No, you don't. You have no control over your tax dollars. No, there won't be a Kelly surcharge but if they didn't have some money it would come from somewhere

Landry has ruined LSU football for the next several years. It’s beyond over. Shut the program down

BY THE WAY

He's making the same exact point Kiffin made in his presser.

Every state university is going to have the same type of contract.
Taxpayers will never be paying for LSU athletics, and to say otherwise that they might is being disingenuous.

He's not wrong about the ridiculousness of college coach contract, but he has no say in how that works (and he needs to shut the frick up about it) and he's literally only voicing this b/c he thinks it will make him more popular nationwide for some stupid arse reason. He's a selfish politician that only thinks about himself, not his constituents.
I hope there's a primary next time he runs for governor so we can not have this asshat be the republican candidate.

LSU is very unlikely to get a big name coach after all of this.

Really poisoned the well big time. Gonna have to take a chance it seems

Kiffin will be signed to a 5 year 40 mill contract.

5mil bonus if made playoffs. 15m bonus if win it all.

I can see something like that

Kiffin's buyout is currently 36.6 and goes to 44 on December 8th.
