I know I’ll get hammered with downvotes. But, I just watched JDs highlights from last year. I hope he was able to make some big strides towards becoming a better passer. I’m confident Denbrock will have a game plan based around JDs strength with his running game. If we get into a situation where we need to throw the ball a ton, I don’t have a lot of confidence in JDs ability to accurately spin it.

We’ll see what happens, good QB play will be the difference in a 7 win season or a 10 win season.

You have zeroed in on the big question for this year as the QB picture clears up some. Most any of these guys can hit some open receivers in the short passing game and even some in open gaps midfield or down range but when its crunch time you have to put the ball in tight windows. That is what separates good from elite. I am not necessarily pessimistic but I need to see some evidence that we are there. Dont be surprised if this is a later in the season development.

Lack of confidence is completely justified. Everyone talking about him completing 65% of his passes are ignoring only 10 TD and very few yards. Obviously the majority of his passes were near the line of scrimmage and there were very few explosive plays. You have to be able to throw down the field to win games often in the SEC now days. I hope for the best, but people having confidence in him as a QB are just being biased fans. His play and results from last year would have been heavily mocked, if he would have transferred to A&M.

There's no reason for anyone to have a great deal of confidence in the QB situation... yet. The last time we've seen both of them play a real game, they didn't really impress. They both still have a lot to prove.

With that being said I am hopeful that they have both improved and we will have a better offensive plan, which allows our team to succeed.

not alot of confidence in JD's ability to spin it

JD spent a lot of summer throwing to several WRs which I think caused Brennan to realize JD and receives built a pass timing brotherhood over that time...

It's up to the OL to give him some time to pass and if that happens he will have a better pass completion percentage than last year esp. with our superior WRs.

And 3rd factor is JD trying to avoid unnecessary injury in a more brutal league.

Giving OP an upvote cause he has some what of a point with confidence going into season opener.

If I were Brennan, I would have stuck around for the first three games.

JD also had 710 yards rushing last year. For some reason I rarely see this mentioned. Its mostly "he cant put the ball into tight windows, LSU cant win enough with him ".

710 yards 5.1 avg rush 6 rushing TD's 51 long.
How many extra first downs is that? Add those 710 yards to LSu's rushing offense last year... vs -41 with 33 sacks and a long of a whopping 12 yards by Johnson.

The offense w/ JD has been scorching the defense all camp.
So maybe its the defense that should concern you? I think LSU's defense does play in the SEC.
He's won the job for now, lets see how it goes....

Yep because everyone can improve…except Daniels he’s the only one who can’t!

Explosive new info

Daniels is the guy, IMO because teams will have to respect his legs. This will allow him to develop under Denbrock.

He's got WAY more weapons at LSU

There’s no reason to be confident in the QB yet. We haven’t seen either of these guys play at LSU. Maybe Daniels will be really good. I’m not going to fret about it though.

Daniels had 2-3 seconds to throw last year because his o line was a sieve. Also he didn’t have receivers who could get much of any separation. Not many qbs can overcome that. Watch him this year with a better o line, NFL receivers, and better qb coaching.

In three years as a starter he has thrown for completion percentages of 60, 58, and 65

There is a myth that Daniels is inaccurate. His decision making and lack of weapons the last two seasons were his problem.
