Absolutely. Which is why these cops still have their jobs right now.

I'm not so sure about suspension. Frankly, I'm not sure where it should fall or in what form.
Here's my view on most punishments, most- not all, in regards to students, including athletes:
- If it was an infraction that only affected the school or the team itself, it should be internal. Which might indeed include suspension; but unannounced to the general public. But should be on display to those it harmed, namely his teammates (e.g. running snakes or bleachers).
- If the harm was outside the team, now we're talking things that "send a message" outside the organization. Such as an announced suspension.
This is obviously the latter assuming, no matter which way you're slicing the bread, that the full(est) set of facts possible is verified. So yes, it should be more public than internal.
In this case to the best we know Koy chose to post on social media and did not use legal channels. To me this belies intent to create something more than what the facts said, in a public way. Additionally at a time of increased tensions concerning law enforcement... about law enforcement.
So maybe the punishment should lie within that same legal system he both circumvented and attacked. So prosecution for lying to police (later), or some kind of hoax. I'm not sure what the charges should be, but something along those lines. Resulting in a very public but moderate punishment. Something that indicates consequences without ruining his life.
Suspension harms him somewhat. But he won't lose his scholarship with suspension. His teammates will also feel some of that punishment by not having him on the field. The team will also be punished at the same time and thus the school.
This act, with intent and done individually, was done by an individual with who knows what motivation. In the end it killed no one. The police officers involved came out in the end ok; some harm done, but not permanent. The punishment should be centered around the individual only, just like the act, and not be permanently injurious (just like the act).
Of course having said all that if he receives any punishment he'll probably be in the portal the next day but still be attending LSU to stay eligible on taxpayer dime.

What some people are missing is when someone causes the police department to invest resources in an investigation it takes those resources away from cases that need work. This is one reason lying to the FBI is such a big deal. So when people think this is no big deal imagine you were the victim of a crime and this kid caused detectives chasing bullshite claims instead of working on your case.
Kid deserves some severe punishment.
Kid deserves some severe punishment.

Because I've met him in person twice and I can 100% guarantee you he is a good kid and means well. Doesn't mean he doesn't make horrible decisions.

“fricked update works we live in”
Spot on
My only hope is he fails miserably and transfers. He tried to ruin the lives of others by using color as the biggest ally.

You support "Cancel Culture?"
How about use this as a "teachable moment"? It worked for Drew Brees.

He lied and tried to ruin the lives of 3 men for simply doing their job. If this is your definition of good kid you may want to rethink your standards.
