The media pronounces it E.T.N. instead of Eh tee ehn. Maybe that is the way he pronounces it... but it drives me nuts.

It doesn't seem difficult to me.
It is said how it's spelled.

I cannot stop myself from saying "Sha-sawn" with a soft N or whatever the phonetics would be.
I have known too many Louisianians with that name and it's burned into my head.
I will try though, for fear K'Lavon hears me one day and stuffs me in a locker.

100%. If you're from LA, you say it correctly.
Given that he's from TX, I can see how/why he & his family say it without the LA/cajun accent.
I too would be scare of him stuffing me into a locker.

I know a family of Etiennes and they pronounce it A-chen.
