while I agree to the build a team logic, both these teams went out and got top QBs. One a proven top guy and the other caught lightning.

But neither are here without them. It’s the QB. With either of those guys LSU is probably a playoff team instead of firing their coach.

Go get me kids like those three in the backfield at Navy....the QB RB and WB

Let those be foundation pieces and supplement with the hired guns.

Those kids are stud athletes, football players, winners

That's the thing that is missing at LSU these days. Players don't want to play for LSU anymore.....they simply want to play for the team that offers them the most money. They in general aren't even interested in winning championships...it is all about the bag this year, and next year they will look for a bigger bag. The NCAA allowing players to transfer without sitting out 1 year has screwed up college football maybe irreparably. Change that one rule, and this mess starts to clean itself up.

Jarvis Landry was a 5 star on every service. He was not a 3 star

You still gotta build a team. If you just chase 5 stars you won’t be where you want to be. Find guys who want to be here and wanna play together. Indiana, Ole Miss and somewhat Miami very much fit this. All the teams that went after stars are not where they want to be.

I can’t wait for these old arse players to get the F out of college. The worst thing to happen to College Football (outside the portal) is the proliferation of 5th year + players.

If I read another thread correctly the average age of players on Indiana’s team is 23 with no starter younger than 21.

I hate that. I want to see kids 18-23 play against each other, not young men that should have graduated 2-3 years ago play semi-pro ball beating up on players 5-7 years younger than themselves.

I’m curious what the average ages of the Michigan, Ohio State, and now Indiana’s teams compare to the SEC teams beginning in 2006.

Experience can fill in a lot of the gaps vs natural talent. I didnt realize how old their roster is.

Yeah, he was one of the oldest players on the team, a 5th year player “enrolled” in a “graduate program”. I know his job was football but he at least has 1 degree.

Indiana has a roster that averages Burrow’s oldest age in college.

You can be bankrolled by a billionaire most schools are, and find the guys who fit the culture your building. How many guys went to Indiana from JMU? Were those guys highly recruited and just dreamed of JMU? Cig is also an above average judge of talent. Mix that with guys who fit but aren’t 5 stars and you get teams like Indiana making runs. Money ball.

Saying the players don't want to play for LSU anymore is not accurate unless you also say they don't want to play for any school that is not offering the most money. Granted, most of them are looking for the money and that seems to be proving out with some of these portal guys making multiple visits. Also, I disagree that they don't care about championships. I believe every kid that has competed, trained and got to this level has an innate desire to win.
But I think as all agree the transfer portal and NIL payments to players need more regulation to stop all the sheninigans going on now.

You're right about Jacob Hester.

Isn't there an older interview in which he claimed to be a two star recruit?

But to the best of my recollection, he was a three star recruit.

It seems to me like most of the time, those recruits who really want to play for LSU first and foremost are the ones who help the program the most.

But on the overall point: I have heard and read more than once that a majority of NFL players were three stars in high school.

Landry was a 5 star. Beckham Jr. was the 3 star.
Correct and as far as WRs go, Jets Jefferson should always be used as the standard for how the star rating system is pointless.

sure they want the championships but if it comes down to joining a team because they have a possible championship roster or going to a team that really doesn't but has a bigger bag......9 out of 10 today are going for the bigger bag. Of course, once they are there, they want to win.....every player wants to win championships, but not at the expense of losing the bag. That is all I was saying.

Indiana’s roster is ranked 72nd according to 247’s team talent ranking. LSU’s is ranked 6th. That tells you everything you need to know.
