King Alexander running his mouth like his Governor buddy and should be fired

“I know a lot of people will say, ‘Well that’s not going to happen,’” he said to the Baton Rouge Press Club about the potential for football to be affected. “Well, that will happen if we don’t have summer school. We’ll only have half of our football team eligible.”

I hate the fear mongering, but it is true. A good bit of the athletes setup their coursework (30 hours for normal year) over 3 semesters (fall, spring, summer) vs. 2...

He is speaking the truth and answering a question asked to him. If LSU doesn't have summer school then the guys that need those hours to be eligible in the fall will not be eligible in the fall. That would affect the football team. F. King Alexander deserves a lot of criticism but I don't think what he said in that article is one of them.

Yeah, the double down is pretty stupid. I really think he and the gubnor thought that by threatening LSU football the citizens of the state would be calling for massive tax increases.

I'm going to do my best to not lose my shite in this thread.

I love how it's the idea of budget cuts somehow affecting football that infuriates the mouth-breathers of this state. Not the decades upon decades of politicians fricking over their constituents.

A lot of things are true, doesn't make them any more likely to happen. An entity and event like LSU football has as much chance of shutting down as me getting elected governor.

What the frick are these people's problems? If there isn't enough money, fricking shut down SUNO. If that's not enough, knock LSUA back to a two year school. If that's not enough, combine Grambling and Tech. If that's not enough, shut down LSUS or Northwestern. And just keep going down the line.

I promise you if it came down to it, LSU would be the last university in the state to shut it's doors.
This is more fear mongering from FKING to secure more funding and donations.
The university wont be shutting down. Unfortunately, a lot of uneducated people in this state see "LSU football possibly shutting down due to budget concerns" and go off on a tangent

This is the reality that if there were major cuts to the education it would start at the smaller schools and work its way up. They are just using LSU as a way to get the peoples attention. It is dirty politics or as most people call it Louisiana politics.

The problem is eligibility of the student-athletes. I'd like to have some bit of confidence that the state legislature will fill the $200-$300 million gap for FY16, if they don't...it's bad news for LSU-BR.

That's not how our brilliant state legislature set up the funding system about 15-20 years ago. Universities aren't allowed to have their own "rainy day fund".

Unfortunately, people don't really like to donate to entities that are broke. So the budget situation isn't helping.

That statement may be "true" but it is not necessary to bring up LSU athletics every time the budget is brought up.
Thats like saying if the sun collided with the earth we would all die. Well no shite, but the likelyhood of that happening any time soon is ridiculous.

Just another day in the SEC.

Let's start by saving the money spent on those two pictured dudes's salaries.

There are two things I hate; 1. Political Posturing. 2. People who suck at their job, and the more we listen to F King the more he fits that bill.
