Kim Mulkey on OTB discussing mid week games

“Pitching...really controls the game but there’s 8 others of you on that damn field. Why in the hell can’t you hit the ball?”
For context, she mentioned Kramer Robertson (that's her son, BTW) would talk to her about those mid week games, how a) it's not your best pitcher out there, and b) when they see they are playing LSU, that's their national championship and you're going to get that effort of out of them. Not that they didn't want to win those games, but that's what they would face.

LSU ADs over the years have made a mistake of not backing up the Women's Basketball-bank truck to her front door in order get her here from Baylor.

I don't think anyone cares that we give up more than usually runs in the midweek games. That's reasonable.
But getting shut down by much lower quality pitchers than you'll face every weekend in the SEC and scoring a run, or getting shut out, is unacceptable.
Yes i know it's baseball, and shite happens, but too often we suck with the bats in mid week games, and those are everyday starters swinging the bat more often than not playing.
5 of the 12 mid week games last year we scored under 2 runs.
Only 8 of the 54 other games we played, we scored less than 2 runs, and one of those games was a 7 inning game. Some of those games we were going up against 1st round pitchers, which is much different than what was faced in the mid week.

AMEN! Kim is a close family friend and I've known her just about my entire life. She's a fierce competitor and a WINNER.

I get so tired of the platitudes. “They didn’t feel like playing”, “it’s the backups” , “this is Nicholls biggest game”. They fricking lost and couldn’t hit. Big deal. Plenty of games to go.
