Mulkey and Griner have had a strained relationship for years. She publicly trashed Baylor and Mulkey after she graduated because it was against school policies to be openly gay at Baylor. People jumped on that wagon for years and it got politicized by a lot of the media. Now people are mad that she isn't defending the situation BG got into. Its clear that don't have a great relationship anymore.
Now Kim could say "I hope she gets home safe" but its apparent she wants nothing to do with that situation. She has been harped on BG for years. She would get criticized regardless if she spoke or didn't
She said one small snippet about it during a press conference in the spring but is never gonna touch that again. The question by the reporter was 100% done for clicks.

That's not really a political agenda and it'll make it less likely she'd be asked about it in the future with simple safe comment like that rather than a no comment.

She was asked the exact same question in a press conference during the end of last season and said she hope she gets home safely and wouldn't say anything else. She isn't going to talk about it any more.
People are more mad she didn't go to social media and make a "official" post about it.
