re: Kicking the 42-yard field goal - stupid decision

quote:yep. and that would be it.
Then Auburn has the ball with 2 minutes and no need to throw the ball. 2 first downs from there ends the game
So based on how Culp was kicking and % chance he makes that PLUS % chance D can hold them (based on play in the game)
vs.
Based on how well we've moved the ball on the ground % chance we don't get it PLUS % chance there's a turnover if you make it
Culp was doing well, weather was good (for kicking) and D was playing very well
vs
Run game hadn't been doing so hot, AU would be stacking box, we hadn't worn their DL down (previous series had 2 sacks), we didn't have 3 timeouts
It was a risk, but the numbers/situation said do it which gave him the 'highest chance for success'.
I'm like you however, and Miles, I tend towards the "if you can't get 1 fricking yard we don't deserve it". But that's pride and emotion, not good coaching.

Hey window licker, I wasn't even talking to you. Do you even internet?
BTW, I decided to bypass your shite take to go after one of the main most gremlins. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. O closed that comeback out exactly how you draw it up. Good defense, an offense that chips away at the score, and special teams. I thought the timeout was a good touch considering the situational pressure at the time, it allowed everybody to catch their breath and execute.
That was how you close out a game.

Lol, no, actually coach O called me and said to check out this dumb dog poster (he couldn't remember your handle) questioning his decision...
He also said that he was glad Culp made it, cuz if he hadn't, someone would second guess him...

I'll tell you what, when I decide to be a "bitch" and RA someone for the 1st time, it will be you. Focus elsewhere, young blood.

we were in danger of getting a delay of game penalty,, thats why they called the TO,, 4th and 7 or 47 yard fg,, not very good options there!!!

I thought the same thing especially since we don’t have a proven kicker like the Auburn guy.

RA me for what?
Just letting you know, you come across like a little kid threatening to RA people you don't agree with. But, who am I to tell you how to live your life. Carry on.

Normally I would agree with OP but LSU had a hard time punching it in from up close and up the middle runs where mostly not successful.

You know what? He did it, we made it, we won. Forget about that and move on. I agree had we missed, had they blocked it, had the went on to win, we'd all have questioned it but it turned out OK. Focus on Ole Miss. Don't worry....be happy.

I was torn as to whether people sit around all day and search for something to complain about...then I read this thread and realized they do.

O didn't ice his kicker. The play. Lock was down to 2 seconds...had to call time out. Did Les Miles teach you clock management?

I was thinking the same thing to be honest, especially when considering our kicker up to that point. But glad obviously it worked in our favor.

Don't care that we made it - that was a stupid decision. I think we can all agree. Any other coach would have gone for it with 4th and less than a yard
Can't agree at all. If you have a chance to take the lead, to take it. Plus, we had 3 plays from the goalline earlier and couldn't push it in.
The FG was definitely the right call. It certainly wasn't a stupid decision.

We gave Auburn another good chance to win it
If we had gone for it, we would have been giving Auburn a chance to win it right there. And, the benefit of that risk was probably going to be us getting a marginally shorter FG (which still had risk).

Well a 42 yard field goal is anything but automatic in college football so it was a very risky call. It worked out though so that's that.
Posted on 10/17/17 at 4:27 pm to Bawser
You are stupid. The right call, we win the game.

Post less and don't consider ever coaching
Posted on 10/17/17 at 4:48 pm to Goldrush25
No the stupid part would have been rushing him to make the kick and possibly get a delay. They were late getting on the field and weren’t set with under 15 seconds.

You know what they say about opinions. Every arse hole is entitled to one.
